Prepare the board for Extreme Overclocking

After having done some testing on air and setting up the operating system we are good to unmount the rig and start to prepare the motherboard for extreme temperatures. First of all on AMD motherboards we need to remove the heatsink mounting bracket and the mounting kit.

Then with the help of a thin screw driver we put cropped sheets of paper towel between the chokes and output capacitors like on the picture below.

The same we do for all the other chokes and capacitors around the CPU socket.

This step is not always needed, but in this run we also want to cool the memory using Liquid Nitrogen. In this case one also needs to insulate the DIMM slots. Again, we did this, using a thin screw driver, to put cropps sheets of paper towel between the DIMM slots as you can see from the pictuers below. Finally we spanned the paper over the DIMM slots not used during overclocking.

In a next step we insulate the area around the DIMM slots. We also use paper towel betweent the ATX12V connector and the last DIMM slot. To make sure that the paper rests in place, we use adhesive tape to fix it to the board.

The area around the DIMM slots close to the top edge of the motherboard is being insulated using art eraser.

Now it is time to use some neopren. Take a piece of neopren and cut holes to make it to fit the motherboard well. Don't forget to drill holes where the thread bars will be mounted to afterwards put the pot in place.

Now we need a second piece of neopren to fit the base of the LN2 pot this time. Again don't forget to cut holes for the mounting kit.

The top edge of the motherboard we insulate with art eraser as well as the base of the VRM's heatsink to avoid condensation issues.

On the back of the motherboard you will need a sheet of neopren, which has the size of the board's PCB to avoid condensation. You also need to drill another four holes in it.

Now we are ready to apply the thermal compound on your processor and fit the LN2 pot.

Here we go, you are ready to break records and have lots of fun. Yes, the memory LN2 cooler is in a highly experimental stage. It is made of a "fries tray".
