Allgemein   + -
At a first glance the Rampage IV Formula definitely leaves a very good impression. The mix of overclocking features and high quality audio hardware makes this a state-of-the-art motherboard for gaming. And next to a very nice looking design you find useful features like for example the "X-Socket". This thing allows you to furhter use your "old" Socket LGA 1366 cooler. And then there is the "Do Not Disturb" door hanger. When we found this one we really had to smile. It really is these small thing that make manufacturers win gamers hearts!   - Design
- 4 x PCI-Express 3.0 Slot
- Compatibility to socket LGA 1366 coolers

Layout   + -

Generally the ASUS Rampage IV Formula's Layout has been very well thought. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors as well as the power- and reset-buttons. There is also a debug display which is very useful in case you should have issues with a component in your system or the board itself. Even the placement of the PCI-Express x16 slots is very well chosen. There is a total of four of these slots which allow quad SLI or quad CrossFireX. We also liked the voltage readouts as well as the possibility that one can deactivate the different PCI-Express x16 via dip switches. The Rampage IV Formula definitely is a motherboard optimized for gaming.

  - Angled SATA connectors
- Power/Reset-Button onboard
- Debug display
- Spac around the CPU socket
- Voltage readouts

Performance   + -
Regarding our 2D benchmarks selection the Rampage IV Formula comes in the center span of our comparison tables and you're going to find the same with the 3D benchmarks we tested. There is only the Street Fighter 4 benchmark in which this board gets a second place out of the nine motherboards we've tested so far. Hopefully future BIOS updates will make this board a little bit faster that it can keep up with the top of our comparison tables. We're going to check this again as soon as the board hits the market because at the moment it isn't available.   - Street Fighter 4 - Power consumption

Power Consumption   + -
As soon as you take power consumption into account you see the impact of onboard features. The fact that the Rampage IV Formula has been packed to the roof with features make is really power hungry. Paired up with the performance of this board it comes in last regarding our performance/watt ratio.     - Power hungry features
- Power consumption under load
- Energy efficiency

Recommendation   + -
The Rampage IV Formula is the first motherboard we recommend that wasn't able to convince regarding performance. The reason that we like this board is that ASUS equipped it with quite a lot of good and useful features. We especially liked that there is a high-quality soundchip onboard and at the same time there are also good overclocking features. Therefore we can recommend this board to gamers as well as enthusiasts who are looking for a high-end motherboard.   - Enthusiasts
- High-End PC
- Gaming System
