Fazit

Allgemein   + -
The ASUS P9X79 Deluxe leaves a very good and also a very adult impression for a product which arrived at the launch of a new chipset series. There is for example plenty of space around the CPU socket to install large coolers comfortably. Furthermore we liked that ASUS equipped this board with a total of three PCI-Express x16 3.0 slots. Considering this the P9X79 Deluxe will be a future proof choice and more than just ready for next-gen GPUs.   - Design
- 3 x PCI-Express 3.0 Slot

Layout   + -

Generally the ASUS P9X79 Deluxe's Layout has been very well thought. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors as well as the power- and reset-buttons. There even is a debug display which is very useful in case you should have issues with a component in your system or the board itself. Even the placement of the PCI-Express x16 is very well chosen. If you should choose to intall a graphics card in the last PCI-Express x16 slot you wont block the connectors at the bottom edge of the board. Antohter thing which we think is worth mentioning is, that ASUS manages to put an awful lot of features on an ATX PCB whereas other manfacturers need an eATX PCB for this many features.

  - Angled SATA connectors
- Power/Reset-Button onboard
- Debug display
- Spac around the CPU socket
- Placement of the PCI-Express slots

Performance   + -
It depends on the point of view how convincing this product is when it comes to performance. Looking at 3D performance reveals that this is a very well performing motherboard. On the other hand there are the 2D benchmarks where we find some glitches. On average it ranks in the center span of our comparison tables.   - 3D Performance
- 3DMark Vantage

Power Consumption   + -
As soon as one takes power consumption into account you can see that all the features, which one can find on this board, really need power to operate. Considering this it's no wonder that under idle conditions the P9X79 Deluxe needs twelve percent more power than the one we took as reference model. Under load it even needs 17 percent more power. In absolute numbers this means that there's a difference of 36 Watts, which really is quite a lot.     - Power hungry features
- Power consumption under load
- Energy efficiency

Recommendation   + -
If you're looking for a rock solid basis regarding Intels latest Core i7-3960X and Core i7-3930K, then the P9X79 Deluxe belongs to the absolute best the market has to offer at this time. These days the board costs CHF 343.- (est. EUR 286.-).   - Enthusiasts
- High-End PC
- Gaming System
