Display

Sony equipped the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW with a semi-glossy 13.3 inch display that features a 1366 x 768 resolution. Furthermore the display comes with LED backlight. The Resolution is sufficient for desktop tasks as well as web browsing. A closer look at the displays brightness reveals that it produces as near as makes no difference 200 candela per squaremeter. Concerning this test the display is average. Furthermore the contrast really could be better and also the black value has been increased which bears the consequence that black isn't brilliant at all.

If you alter the viewing angle of the display vertically 10 degrees will be enough and the colors start to invert and to become much brighter. From a horizontal perspective at takes about 50 degrees until colors start to change. In general the display is average and it couldn't convince.

Input Devices

The Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW subnotebook comes with a full-size keyboard but with no number pad which is a logical consequnce becaus of the devices size. Usefully placed, there are arrow keys which are suitable not only for gamers users, office useres will enjoy them equally. Typing on the Vaio S-Serie VPC-SB1S1EW is very comfortable and the keyboard itself leaves a good impression. It really is a pity that the chassis shows so much flex.

Centered, below the keyboard you can find the touchpad. It hasn't been integrated into the cases material and offers a left and a right key. The touchpad also offers scrolling functionality. It might takes almost no time at all until you're familiar with the scrolling functionality. Because there is a frame around the touchpad, scrolling will be intuitive.
