Construction and design

Construction

The Noctua NH-C14 mainly consists of aluminium and nickel coated copper. The base plate is made of solid copper which has been coated with nickel. Furthermore the baseplate has been polished and the structure is only visible very slightly. To transport the heat as efficiently as possible from the CPU there are six heatpipes which all have a diameter of six millimeters. Altogether there are 68 fins soldered to the heatpipes. As standard the cooler comes equipped with two 140 millimeter fans. Both of them do have a very practical clamping mechnism. As a result one can mount or dismount the fans easily.

Design

It can almost be taken for granted that the Noctua NH-C14 cooler is very well made and there are absolutely no hints for a sloppy manufacturing process. The Austrians have taken care of every single detail. It is interesting to see that Noctua decided not to connect the single fins on to another. Normally this makes the cooler stiffer and it optimizes the airflow.

Fan

Nocuta equips the NH-C14 with two fans, measuring 140 millimeters in diameter. They're both equal and perfectly manufactured. Using the delivered (ULNA) resistors you can lower the rotation speed to 800 rotations per minute and the fans will then be almost noiseless. If you decide to not use the resistors and drive the fans at 12 volts standard voltage then they will move 110.3 quibic meters of air per hour which is a good values keeping the noise level of 41.0 dBA in mind.
