User Interface
The setup of a media player couldn't be much
easier. In principle the only thing one needs to do, is connecting the O!Play to
a power source as well as to the home network and television. After device has
started you should have a look at your network settings. If you do not have the
O!Play connected to a DHCP server then you'll have to enter a suitable IP
address yourself. It is also possible to use a WiFi stick instead of the
ethernet LAN port. Furthermore there are also settings to set the different
audio and video in- as well as outputs.
In our case the O!Play
had been shipped with 1 TByte hard drive from Western Digital. Using the
integrated NAS functionality it is piece of cake to configure shares for your
local network. It is almost astonishing that everything seems to work fine, even
at a first try. With other media players there is a need to install software on
the client side but not with the O!Play. Furthermore it is also possible to
consume online content. The only thing we would wish the developers at ASUS had
implemented, that's a browser. There is no application to access the internet
using your television.
Via the File Manager one can easily browse the hard drive which can be installed
as well as the network. This feature also works smoothly and it is a pleasure to
use it.
Almost standard is the
possibility the devices like this come with a music player as well as a photo
album. Regarding both files can be read from the internal hard drive as well as
the local network.
