Conclusion

Allgemein   + -
With the Big Bang Marshal, MSI created a truly impressive motherboard which comes with an awful lot of features but still look nice an tidy. MSI shows at lot of attention to detail regarding the color scheme and the design in general. Everything fits together and creates a harmonic picture. Regarding features the Big Bang Marshal comes for example with a total of eigth PCI-Express x16 slots. There also is their "OC Genie" button which is very useful for users who want to overclock their system but don't know how to do it. Especiall impressive about this board is its 36 phase power design. In fact there is no other board out on the market at the moment which comes with a more sophisticated power design.   - Layout

Layout   + -

Generally the MSI Big Bang Marshals layout is very well thought and the different components have been arranged neately. Once more very practical are the angled SATA connectors as well as the onboard power and reset buttons. At the back panel you'll also find a clear CMOS switch which also is a practical addition. Regarding the eight PCI-Express x16 slots we have to mention that "only" four should be used in combination with video cards. The other four slots have provided with only one PCI-Express lane which would compromise the performance significantly.

Performance   + -
From a performance point of view the Big Bang Marshal has been able to convince us. At the moment there are quite a lot of boards out there in the market which are much more efficient. Lots of them are able to perform significantly better throughout all benchmarks. Especially regarding the Futuremark tests as well as Super Pi 32M camp still has a lot of work to do possibly improve the performance. We're hoping that there will be BIOS updates in the future that make this board a bit faster.     - Futuremark

Overclocking   + -
With it's 36 phase design overclocking definitely isn't something unknown for this board. One thing we noticed was that this board needs less voltage on the CPU to push it to a certain clock speed than motherboards from other manufacturers. Regarding this positive effect we assume that the 36 phase power design causes this influence. What we didn't like about the Big Bang Marshal from an overclockers perspective as well as from a users point of view is the usability of the BIOS. There are lots and lots of features which are nice to play with but there far too less structure to quickly find your way to manipulate the exact setting you want to change. The color scheme for example can be disturbing for beginners as wells as enthusiasts too. And this we have one concrete suggestion what could be changed: we would appreciate it if voltages could be entered directly via keyboard. At the moment one needs to select the setting using the mouse and then scroll down until the specific setting appears.   - Efficient regarding voltage - confusing BIOS - Takes long to get used to

Recommendation   + -
We'd recommend the MSI Big Bang Marshal to PC enthusiasts as well as overclockers. If you look at the performance of this thing there definitely are better boards out there on the market but still with its 36 phase power design and eight PCI Express x16 slots the Marshal is something special.   - PC Enthusiast
