Conclusion

General   + -
Quick and easy: This card simply is a dream! Due to the new cooler the card is more silent and therefore does it's job better than ATIs reference. Also with 27 Watts dissipation power in 2D mode you can even have a clear conscience when your just browsing the web.   Sehr leiseVery silent

Delivery   + -
The delivery is exactly how it should be with a high-end graphics card. Even an HDMI cable has been included into the delivery which definitely is standard these days. Unfortunately the box is just a simple piece of cardboard and when you buy the card retail out of a shelf you wont get the impression that this is an overclocking beast with lots of accessories.   - HDMI cable
- Cooler

- No HDMI cable

Performance   + -
The MSI R5870 Lightning scored really well in our benchmarks. The gain in performance can be explained by the increase of the GPU clocks. If you ask yourself why the Lightning isn't as quick as Gigabytes SOC version of the 5870 this can also be explained with the fact that the Gigabyte SOC again clocks 50 MHz higher than Lightning.   - Performance in general

Overclocking   + -
If your not satisfied with 900 MHz on the GPU you'll enjoy MSIs Afterburner tool. With the new cooler and the unique board design clock speeds way above 1'000 MHz are very easy to reach. The maximum we reached in Aquamark 3 was a staggering 1'048 MHz.   - Overclocking 1'000 MHz +

Recommendation   + -
The MSI R5870 Lightning really is capable of doing some serious overclocking but also gamers and enthusiasts will enjoy this piece of hardware. The additional CHF 60.- (est. EUR 40.-) you'd have to pay, compared with a standard 5870, are definitely worth it. But the price of CHF 446.- (EUR 330.-) make the MSI R5870 also one of the most expensive Single-GPU cards.   - PC-Enthusiast
- Overclocker
- Gamer

The MSI R5870 Lighning can be bought at Digitec to a price of CHF 446.- (est. EUR 330.-).
