With the Crosshair IV Formula Asus has an all solid motherboard in its portfolio, which is able to score well in benchmarks and also comes with a well thought layout. Only when overclocking the board you'll reach the limit quite quickly which is a bit disappointing because the ROG series is well known for very good overclockability. | - Performance

The Crosshair IV Formula is well structured and especially the design leaves a lasting impression. Somehow Asus is still able to improve their motherboards looks although they already are close to perfection. Once more practical are the SATA connectors which are angled by 90 degrees and also once more we would wish that the buttons at the bottom edge of the board would have been placed somewhere else because when you install a graphcis card in the fourth PCI-e slot you wont be able to use them anymore. |

Based on the AMD 890FX chipset on average this motherboard scored well in our benchmark parcours but depending on the test there were also some results which haven't been that good. Especially in benchmarks which test the memory bandwidth the Crosshair IV Formula is very good. Also for gaming the board is a good choice. | -

Overclocking | + | - | |
If you'd only look at the busclock the Crosshair IV Formula reaches this board isn't able to convince because 239 MHz is a bit low if we for example compare this value with the 274 MHz a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT does. On the other hand very intuitive is the process of setting the BIOS up. All the settings are where you expect them and even if you choose for example memory timing of which you know that they don't work the Crosshair IV Formula resets them to default and boots again. | - Busclock 239 MHz

If you're thinking about buying a decent gaming system the Crosshair IV Formula might be the board you're looking for but overclockers and enthusiasts might have a go with a board that offers them a bit more everywhere. | - Gaming-PC | - PC-Enthusiasts - Desktop-PC |
