Conclusion

Générale   + -
The X99 Strix from ASUS is a very well equipped yet not too expensive motherboard. We like the design, which has been kept in black mostly and combined with the Aura RGB lighthing feature. Apart from that there are features such as a U.2 port, beefed-up audio and a M.2 slot.   - Design

Layout   + -

Basically the ASUS X99 Strix's Layout has been very well structured. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors as well as the power- and reset-buttons. There is also a debug display which is very useful in case you should have issues with a component in your system or the board itself. Apart from that there is also a new safe boot as well as a retry onboard. Both these buttons will be useful if you choose to overclock or even extreme overclock your system. Also the placement of the PCI-Express x16 is very well chosen. There is a total of four full sized PCI Express slots and all of them support PCIe Gen 3.0. In this case it is possible to build a triple SLI/CF setup without running into issues. Furthermore there is one SATA Express port as well as a M.2 slot.

Performance   + -
A closer look at the performance of the X99 Strix shows, that this board ranks 4th in our 3D performance comparison while in the 2D charts it achieves 11th place. We would have expected this board to be quicker in our 2D benchmarks. On another note we had a look at power consumption and in this case we clearly see that we have a board here that has been equipped with many additional chips, which in the end means, that power consumption is high and energy efficiency is not its strength.   - 3DMark 11 - Consommation

Overclocking / BIOS   + -
As you might have expected from ASUS you get an excellent BIOS which offers not only a boatload of tuning and tweaking options but is also very easy to use. Though ROG themed BIOS always comes with a touch that's a bit more technical it's still very well structured and it won't take long until one understands what's where.   - Simple et intuitif - Beaucoup d'options

Recommandation   + -

Should you be looking for a X99 gaming motherboard for noticeably below 300 Euro then the ASUS X99 Strix is a reasonable choice.
