The MSI X99A XPower Gaming Titanium is MSI's second "Titanium motherboard". We already liked the looks of the Z170A XPower Gaming Titanium very much, since it's different yet strikingly good looking. So far these are the only boards featuring a silver-greyish PCB, that blends in perfectly with the aluminum sheets covering the heatsinks and the I/O area. Even the metal reinforcements of the DIMM as well as PCIe slots fit the design perfectly without standing out.
The layout is well thought and there is for example plenty of space around the CPU socket to install large CPU coolers. The angled SATA connectors allow for an easy installation of oversized high-end graphics cards.
The MSI X99A XPower Gaming Titanium comes with a digital 12 phase power design and those 12 phases are realized with 6 phase doublers from Intersil (ISL6617). Apart from that every single phase received an SFC (Super Ferrite Choke) inductor, which, according to MSI, is rated at 60A. Furthermore there are 11 330uF Tantalum capacitors and a PWM controller from Intersil (ISL6388).
A quick look at the memory VRM
shows MSI is using a PWM controller from Powervation (PV3203). This dual-phase controller is combined with phases from Fairchild (FDMS3668S).
Overall the X99A XPower Gaming Titanium features a solid power design, which is capable of handling the loads generated by extreme overclocking easily.
There are eight DIMM-slots on the
MSI X99A XPower Gaming Titanium officially supporting DDR4 with up to 3466 MHz. There is enough space between the DIMM-slots and the CPU socket which
means that you won't run into any compatibility problems with large coolers even when you choose to install RAM with big heatspreaders.
Also supported are Xtreme Memory Profiles (XMP) in version 2.0.
On the X99A XPower Gaming Titanium the PCH as well as the current converters have been equipped with separate heatsinks. In total there are four, they've been milled from aluminum and therefore there is a high-quality feel to them.
