Fazit

Allgemein   + -
The ASUS Maximus III Extreme is latest motherboard from the P55-ROG series. It was able to leave a lasting impression and it convinces especially with its design and overclocking capabilities. Very useful is also the delivered bluetooth receiver which provides the board with additional connectivity. Generally the Maximus III Extreme has been engineered with extreme overclocking in mind.   - Special capacitors and MOSFETs
- Design
-Bluetooth

Layout   + -

The Maximus III Extreme's layout has been well thought and everything fits together. The ROG typical design in black and red looks very good on the Maximus III Extreme and even modders might buy this board.
Once again comfortable are the angled SATA connectors which make installing new hardware easier. Only the positioning of the power-, start- and CLR CMOS buttons at the bottom edge of the board is suboptimal because you can't use them anymore if you should decide to install a graphics card in the last PCI-e slot.

  - Attention to detail
- Angled SATA connectors
- Power- / Reset- / CLR CMOS-Button onboard

- Connectors at the bottom edge

Performance   + -
Talking about performance the Maximus III Extreme shows very good numbers and figures. In almost ever benchmark it is able to reache a top position no matter if it is a 2D or gaming benchmark. The only weakness it showed has been in Street Fighter.   - Memory bandwidth

Overclocking   + -
Overclocking absolutely isn't something unknown to the Maximus III Extreme. Quickly you'll find suitable settings in the clearly arranged BIOS and especially important for beginners is the fact that the board also is very forgiving if you should chose settings that don't work. It is even able to reach a BCLK of 240 MHz which is very high. Using the iROG connector it is also possible to adjust voltages and frequencies from another PC.    - BCLK 240 MHz
- iROG

Recommendation   + -
Generally spoken we recommend the Maximus III Extreme especially to PC-enthusiasts, extreme overclockers and gamers because of the high BLCK it is able to achieve and the very good performance it showed in all the benchmarks. But be aware so much high-end comes at a cost and this motherboard isn't exactly a bargain.   - Gamer
- PC-Enthusiasts
-Extreme Overclocker
-Office PC

The ASUS Maximus III Extreme can be bought at Brack to a price of CHF 419.- (est. EUR 279.-).
