Totally ASUS provided the Maximus III Gene with six angled SATA ports which are located below the memory slots. Therefore every office-PC or gaming-system can be equipped with plenty of drives. Furthermore the angled SATA connectors allow you to install even todays biggest graphics card without encountering incompatibilities. It even is possible to set up a SLI/CrossFire system with this little thing. The only drawback in this case is that when you install a second card you can barely use the connectors and buttons at the bottom edge. Almost standard with ASUS motherboards these days are the Start, Reset, CLR-CMOS and MemOK! buttons which can be very useful, especially if you do overclocking. With the ROG series you even get a special feature, the ROG Connect port. Using it you have the opportunity to overclock your Maximus III Gene motherboard remotely from another PC or notebook.

Totally you'll find five fan headers on the Maximus III Gene which is plenty to even keep a high-end system cool. The fanheaders are located around the CPU socket as well as at the bottom edge of the mainboard.

Looking at the external connectors ASUS provided the Maximus III Gene with nine USB 2.0 connectors, one Gigabit-Ethernet-Port, one Firewire connector, a PS/2 keyboard connector, one eSATA Port as well as an optical S/PDIF Out connector and an analogue soundpanel.
