| Looking at the layout the Asus Maximus III Gene is very well structured and nearly everything is where you want it to be. The colors fit into the Asus ROG-design and are black and read as main colors. The angled SATA connectors are meanwhile standard and allow you to install even todays biggest graphics card without encountering any problems. The issue can be found when you install the garphics card into the second PCIe slot. Afterwards you wont be able to use the connectors at the bottom edge of the board. | -

| One of the best things about the Maximus III Gene is its performance. Mostly the little mATX board is able to fight for the top positions in our benchmarks tables. This is especially impressive if you consider this products small form factor. | -

As soon as you start overclocking you see that the Maximus III Gene has a lot of potential. In the easy to use BIOS you'll quickly find the corresponding settings and therefore we were able to reach 225 MHz BCLK which makes it as fast as Gigabytes UD5 and UD6. Thanks to the ROG-Connect it can also be overclocked using another PC.
