Fazit

Overall the ASUS M4A78T-E is a solid product and therfore it isn't like magic that regarding the performance it can keep up even with the quickest AMD based boards. The fact that the board already comes with an onboard graphics solution as well as two PCIe graphic slots let you a lot of headroom looking at gaming performance. There is a wide field where you can use the M4A78T-E.

The layout has been designet clearly. It comes with 3 fan connectors at key positions but one or two connectors more wouldn't have been wrong. Looking at the SATA connectors we find that they aren't angled by 90°. If you therefore set up a CrossFire system two connectors become useless.

Especially in the Futuremak benchmarks the board showed a good performance. If we look at the other benchmarks it also isn't that bad but it struggles getting really good values.

While doing overclocking you might run into problems rather quickly. If a specific BIOS setting doesn't work you'll have to do a CMOS clear before you get access to the BIOS again. As a little surprise it was pretty easy doing extreme overclocking with boards but we have to mention there is a rather big deviation with the voltages. As we set 1.70 Volts in the BIOS the CPU effectively got 1.776 Volts.

Summarizing we can state that the ASUS M4A78T-E is a very good entry level board for people who like to have future possibilities to upgrade their configuration.

The ASUS M4A78T-E can be bought at Brack Electronics to a price of CHF 169.- (ca. EUR 112.-).
