With the Story Station Samsung shows off an external drive that goes its own ways with a retro look. Some people will surely like it but other may think it's to old fashioned. The blinking white LED we thnink is nearly too much of the good. Furthermore this LED can also be dimmed by the Jog Dial at the drives front. After some time on the desk in the editorial office the drive had to wander out of sight because the blinking which became annoying.
If we look at the Story Stations case it is very well built. The materials chosen generate a very good impresseion, especially the brushed aluminium can perfectly fit on a clean desktop. The heat dissipation and therefore the power consumption are also noticeably good. Even after several hours under load the drive wasn't even warm.
Already on the Story Station you will find features installable on Windows 2000 and higher as well as Mac OS X. They are a very practical addition especially for home office users. At this point we again mention the manuals quality. You can find them situated directly on the drive in several languages. Installing and using the delivered application in combination with the manuals is childern's play.
If you are looking for an external drive capable of saving up to 1.5 TByte of data which does a good job - but sometimes a little bit flashy - you and the Story Station will become very good friends.
At the time of publishing this article the Story Station hasn't been listed in any Swiss online shop. As soon as this changes we will mention the actual price at this point.
