Conclusion


Sapphires Radeon HD 4890 which carries AMD/ATIs new, overworked RV790 GPU is based completely on the reference design. The clock speeds therefore are 850 MHz regarding the GPU and 975 MHz regarding the GDDR5 memory. The fact that the dissipation power which is 30 watts higher then with the predecessor the Radeon HD 4870 is followed by a slightly louder fan which rotates with up to 5'000 rpm.

If you compare the Radeon HD 4890 with its predecessor the Radeon HD 4870 you see a performance increase between 3 and 25 percent. Mostly the Radeon Hadeon 4890 manages to be at least 8 to 10 percent faster than the HD 4870.

With the Radeon HD 4890 AMD/ATI introduces an interesting new product to the market. Especially the overclocking great claimed overclocking potential causes many manufacturers to produces sometime even heavily overclocked versions. In a further article we will also take a closer look at the 4890 real overclockability as a single card an in CrossFire mode.
