Conclusion

With funny productnames and a well thought design EKL wants to sell its "Alpenföhn" products in the highly competitive high-end CPU cooler market.

With a big cooling area and a 120 mm fan that is just audible this cooler was able to do well in our tests. The four heatpipes do a good job and transport the heat efficiently to the fins made of aluminium. If we had a wish we'd like to get an easier mounting mechanism.

If you drive the included, blue illuminated fan with 12 volts it is it is subjectively audible and a 25 percent clock increase can easily be done. With 6 volts the performance is still sufficient to hold the CPU at adequate temperatures and the fan is subjectively silent.

Because of the size of EKLs Alpenföhn Gross Clock'ner Blue Edition it could be possible that the fan touches memory installed in the first bank especially if your system is equipped with memory that carries a big heatspreader.

You can buy the Alpenföhn Gross Clock'ner Blue Edition for CHF 59.- at Digitec.ch.
