The Z170 Deluxe from ASUS means business. Already at launch day, ASUS has a mature motherboard in its portfolio. Compared to the predecessor the motherboard maker changed the color scheme from black/gold to black/white, which in our opinion is quite a bit more attractive. As usual you get a plethora of features with ASUS's Deluxe motherboard. In this regard it doesn't matter wheter you're looking for a beefed-up audio solution or the possibility to install setup a multi card system. Apart from that we also like it that there are several ways to connect storage media to this board. There are SATA and SATA Express connectors, there is an M.2 slot and through an adapter you can even connect NVMe drives. | -

Layout | + | - | |
The ASUS Z170 Deluxe'sl layout has been very well thought. Once more practical are the angled SATA connectors as well as the power- and reset-buttons. There is also a debug display which is very useful in case you should have issues with a component in your system or the board itself. Apart from that also the placement of the PCI-Express x16 slots is very well chosen. There is a total of three full sized PCI Express slots and between the first two PCI Express x16 slots there are two PCIe x1 slots. This means that there is plenty of space for graphics card in multi GPU setups to breathe. Should you want to do that you can go ahead and build a triple-GPU system using this board as a basis. As we already mentioned we also like the flexibility regarding storage connectors. | -

Calculating the average of all 3D benchmarks results we ran, we see that this is the second fastest board. When taking the average of all 2D results, this board comes in on a good third spot. On another note, we had a look at power consumption and since this is a board with many features, power consumption is rather high. | - 3DMark Fire Strike |

Overclocking / BIOS | + | - | |
ASUS has a beautiful looking BIOS when it comes to their Signature series motherboards. The UEFI BIOS gets a black background and there are a few additional blue and white design elements. Meanwhile it's almost normal that a BIOS is complete, offering countless features. If you're looking for overclocking options you'll find a great many of them and they are equally practical for novices and extreme overclockers. We always love the pre-defined profiles, which make overclocking quite a bit more efficient. Boosting our CPU to 5.0 GHz was absolutely no problem at all. | - Sheer amount of

The Z170 Deluxe is a very well equipped Z170 motherboard, which features good perfomance. Currently this board costs 283 Euro and at that price it's definitely not cheap. Nevertheless the price is adequate justified by the many features and as well as the great looking design. | -
