The GTX 980 Ti Gaming with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory is simply amongst the very fastest cards we've had for testing yet. The new TwinFrozr V cooler, which is capable of deactivating the fans, when the card is in idle does a great job. Apart from that there is a high quality power design, which allows overclocking the GM200 significantly. Looking at performance this card is insanely fast, overclocking itself to a maximum boost clock of a staggering 1380 MHz. Combine that with the 2816 CUDA cores, and you can grasp, that this card is seriously fast. Putting this card through all the different games, we noticed, that it is actually capable of running UHD smoothly. Apparently, when there are high detail settings used in UHD then even this card struggles, but without anti aliasing activated almost any game can be played at 3840 x 2160. Basically there is only one drawback with this card: it is quite expensive. Already the reference GTX 980 Ti is able to tear a huge hole into your pocket and the GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G from MSI costs about 50 Euro more than the reference card. Considering the already high price of the GTX 980 Ti reference cards and the fact, that this particular model features a great cooler as well as an equally great power design, the extra 50 Euro are the utmoste that can be justified. |

As noted earlier, the TwinFrozr V cooler on this particular card is really powerful. We very much like the fact, that in idle this card is inaudible, since the fans are not spinning at all. Under load the card is still very silent and the cooler maintains a maximum temperature of 73°C, which is a actually a rather low temperature target. |

Compared to the reference design, this card features a massive 204 MHz factory overclock regarding the boost clock. Therefore the performance is significantly higher, than what you would be getting from a reference card. On average you can expect this particular card to be about 19 percent faster than the reference GTX 980 Ti. MSI even overclocked the memory chips by 100 MHz. |

Recommandation / Prix | + | - | |
At the moment we find this card listed in Europe for 718 Euro. At this price point the MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6 GB is anything but cheap, but keeping in mind that this is one of the fastest single GPU cards available today, the price is adequate. As we already mentioned the this custom card costs about 50 Euro more than the cheapest reference model, and keeping in mind, that you get a great cooler as well as a complex custom PCB, the can be justified. Should you be looking for a seriously fast single GPU card and should the price not be a concern, then this is an excellent choice. |
