Overview

The Define R5 features a simple and neat design, and is made of black metal and plastic of excellent quality. The front door features a matte black panel which covers two 5.25" slots placed at the top of the case as well as the huge front dust filter. In the upper area, right behind the front door, you can find a switch with three differents steps, which allows you to control the speed of up to a maximum of three fans. The bundle also includes two Fractal Design Dynamic GP14 140mm fans. The door itself, as well as side panels, are equipped with sound-absorbing material of good quality and thickness, which has become a trademark for most Fractal Design cases. The locking mechanism is sturdy and well-designed. Unlike other models, Fractal Design has also implemented a system which allows to switch the opening direction of the door. The I/O panel features two USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, the power and reset buttons as well as the standard audio jacks. On both sides of the front panel there are few small openings that allow the front fans to pull fresh air into the case. The side panels, even if they look quite simple, are actually the most important piece of the soundproofing system as they both lined with soundproofing material, which is actually pretty heavy and should do a great job at blocking the noise.
The back panel is simple and you get seven PCI expansion slots, the opening for the motherboard I/O panel, a 140mm fan slot and the opening for the standard ATX power supply. Under the case there are four plastic feet with an alumium finish, which ensure that the PSU gets enough fresh air to operate correctly.
