Conclusion

The Razer Kraken 7.1 gaming headset is a pretty good product. The build quality as well as the materials used is really good and on a level that we expected from Razer. The comfort is quite important in this segment and that is where the Kraken has been able to excel. The soft cushions fit perfectly and you will never experience pressure points. The sound quality is good but we would prefer a more balanced sound so we do not have to swap headphones to enjoy music. The microphone is retractable, with green LED and remote control. Like we said, the audio is not perfectly balanced but thanks to the Razer's software you can changing it to fit your needs. It is not the first time that we have used a headset with 7.1 virtual surround sound and in this case the sound is pleasant and highly immersive. If you are an MMO player and you have always to jump in and out from a voice chat or adjust your volume, you will be disappointed as the Kraken 7.1 does not feature an in-line remote control.

Razer does not include a software CD inside the bundle but the software is free and available to everyone, since you only need to register at Razer's site before download it. We think that this process could be annoying for some users. However the software is still practical and intuitive to use.

The price of the Kraken 7.1 is in line with other similar products. The starting price at Geizhals, excluding shipping costs, is set at 95 euro. For these reasons the Razer Kraken 7.1 receive 3.5 out of 5 stars.
