Announcement: Despite the circumstances that the rating of a product is based on as many objective facts as possible there are certain factors which can have an influence on a rating after publication. Judging by the results we have gathered on a couple of previous previous pages, it looks like
OCZ did a good job with the implementation of Toshiba's 19 nanometer NAND. A
closer look at the performance results reveals that the Vertex 460 with 120
Gigabyte capacity is one of the quickest drives money can buy, if you're looking
for a 120 Gigabyte model. It's good to see that Toshiba and OCZ are up for a
solid start and it should give confidence to all customers. We can expect
a fierce battle on the SSD market in 2014 as well as the following years.
Checking the performance numbers we measured up to 529 Megabyte per second
for sequential reads and 421 Megabyte per second for sequential write
performance.
Regarding random throughput, the Vertex 460 has been able to provide 71'000 IOPS
while performing random write operations and 77'000 IOPS performing random
reads. Since the Vertex 460 is based on a OCZ's own Barefoot 3 M10 controller there
will be no significant performance drops when transferring compressed data.
Taking a
closer look at the price of this drive shows that OCZ decided to go with the MSRP to 89.99
Euro. Compared to the competition, the Vertex 460 is not the cheapest SSD around, but
it certainly comes with an attractive price point, which is right inbetween the
Samsung 840 Evo and the Samsung 840 Pro. In our opinion pricing the drive in
this range suits it perfectly.
The Vertex 460 with 120
Gigabyte offers really good performance at a decent price point. Should you be looking for a
quick drive for a fair price, then the Vertex 460 120 Gigabyte is certainly a
good choice.
