Totally ASUS equipped the Maximus VI Impact with four straight SATA ports. All ports offer 6Gbps bandwidth and they are natively wired to the Z87 PCH. Additionally there is an eSATA connector on the I/O panel. You'll also find practical onboard power- and reset-buttons on this board and there is also a debug display, but this one has been moved to the I/O panel, since there just isn't enough space on the motherboard. In this case the manufacturer put all the sound related components on another daughter board, which is therefore electrically isolated from the rest of the board. In this case you get high-quality ELNA capacitors as well as a headphone amp, which is able to provide headphones with an impedance of up to 600 ohm with a well audible audio signal.

The fan headers are located around the CPU socket and the fourth can be found right next to the onboard power button. ASUS decided to use 4-pin PWM headers in all five cases. Therefore it is possible to adjust rotation speed in the BIOS or in Windows.
