Served in a transparent plastic blister, the Ares are ready to survive all the perils on the way to a potential customer.



Not willing to apply any perturbations to the styling, G.Skill might have made a mistake by not offering Ares in any color different from blue. With the release of Haswell CPUs, the amount of motherboard models sporting blue-and-black color scheme has drastically decreased meaning that people who are willing to match the color of components inside their builds might turn the Ares down unless they can hide it under a CPU heatsink.



With the trademark low-profile design of the Ares series, the construction of the cooling solution is very simple. Indeed, it is hard to think of something more efficient than a pair of pressed aluminium heatsinks and two strips of thermal tape given so little height to work with.




The adhesive used by G.Skill is not very sticky, so the heatspreaders were relatively easy to detach. As predicted previously, the 2400C11 version of the Ares is based on 4Gbit ICs manufactured by Hynix, which are commonly referred to as MFR.
As can be seen from the pictures, G.Skill wanted to hide this information from competitors and customers. Unfortunately, their attempts did not end being too successful as the extra label can be scratched off to a point where original markings underneath are clearly readable.



The SPD of the modules contains some basic information on the maker and the model of the memory. It also features six JEDEC profiles and an XMP which are designed to make things work out of the box.
