Do not use a cooler that needs a backplate to be attached to the board, you will damage SMDs on the back of the board like on the pictures below and if you are lucky enough kill the board.

Was kinda hard to take those pics, sorry for the bad quality (it's also late ^^).

In thise case I used the backplate of a Corsair H90 cooler.

Is not the first time that I see something like that.
On other forum, some guys uses some spacers...like:


(rubber, not metal)

between backplate and mainboard, so then backplate doesn't hurt the SMDs

Same on Z77E-ITX and some backplate, you could have problems with msata

Good workaround but then the user shouldn't tighten the screws too hard

It is a cooler, then on H67..you think really that you could have problems with temps caused from pressure of the screws?

I put my 3770K on that board and OCed it to hell

This happened to me with an Intel (Asetek) watercooler that has the same retention bracket on the backside. I just cut the part away from the bracket and made it fit like that. "applyforce" ... if that doesn't help "applymoreforce" ...

Ha, so that's why the Intel cooler's backplate is broken...
