Conclusion

General   + -
Until today the GTX 580 Matrix Platinum is the second fastest GTX 580 graphics card we've ever tested. Already the factory overclocking makes it clear that ASUS is aming for the absolute high-end segment with this card. Furthermore overclockers get a whopping 19 phase power design which is even three phases more than you're already getting with a GTX 580 Lightning from MSI. Meanwhile ASUS delivers its overclocking cards with a new utility. TweakIt comes with quite a few more features than the old SmartDoctor. Especially for beginners very comfortable and eays is the feature that GPU voltage and GPU frequency are linked by default. For quick overclockings you'll find a button on the PCB using which you can set the fan speed to 100 percent.    - 2D silent - 3D silent
- Features

- Triple-Slot Design

Performance   + -
If you look at the performance numbers you'll quickly see that the GTX 580 Matrix Platinum is the second fastest single GPU card we've ever tested. The only card which is able to outperform the this card is the MSI GTX 580 Lightning which comes with a stock frequency that is 16 MHz higher and therefore explains the difference. Nevertheless it was astonishing to see that the 580 Matrix Platinum set the highest score in 3DMark 11.   - Very fast single GPU card - 3DMark 11 Performance
- Factory overclocking

Overclocking   + -
At this point we were able to reach 956 MHz GPU and 4'128 MHz memory clock speed quite effortlessly. This is what you get from a GTX 580 in general. This cards true potential can be unleashed when it's being cooled to sub zero temperatures using liquid nitrogen. Otherwise the 19 phases the power design offers don't really have a lot to do. What proved to be very practical was the new TweakIt software. We liked the idea of linking GPU voltage and GPU clock speed. Especially for beginners this a nice feature. Onboard you'll find for example "+" and "-" buttons which are there to easily increase clock speeds. Furthermore there also is a button to instantly set fan speed to 100 percent. Last but no least ASUS equipped this card with a Safe Mode button which resets all settings you might have previously made.   - 956 MHz GPU
- 19 Phase PWM
- Voltage regulation GPU / Memory
- TweakIt Sofware
- Onboard +/- OC-Feature
- SafeMode Button
- Voltage measuring points

Recommendation   + -
If you should be looking for a very fast GTX 580 which offers numerous overclocking features, then the GTX 580 Matrix Platinum definitely is a good choice.   - High-End Gaming
- Overclocking
- Extreme-Overclocking
- Desktop-GPU

Rating
Because of the fact, that the ASUS GTX 580 is a faultless high end graphics card which comes at a competitive price tag which as about CHF 520.- (est. EUR 400.-) we give it five out of five possible stars.
