Delivery

  • AS-604
  • Power cord
  • CD-ROM
  • 1 x Ethernet cable
  • Screws

The AS-604 comes with all what is necessary for proper operation. The hard drive bays can easily be removed. The perforated bottom plate promises efficient heat dissipation and the disks themselves can be installed securely using four screws. Mounted to the back of the casing there is a fan which measures 120 millimeter in diameter. It's operating noise is subjectively very silent but it still moves plenty of air to keep the hard drives as well as the other components cool.

A closer look at Asustor's hardware choice shows that the equipped the AS-604 with an Intel Atom Dual Core CPU which operates at 2.13 GHz. Furthermore there is 1 Gigabyte memory, which is expandable to a maximum of 3 Gigabyte. This configuration offers plenty of performance for a NAS and makes sure that you'll be able to get high transfer speeds. Turning the device around shows that there are two Gigabit Ethernet ports, which can be configured for fail over redundancy or teaming, in order to boost throughput performance. There are also two USB 3.0 ports, allowing you to quickly copy data from a USB stick or external drives to the NAS. If you own older USB 2.0 drives, you can attach them to the four USB 2.0 ports. There even are two eSATA ports to attach more drives or maybe external hard drive cages.

Another useful feature is the HDMI port. There is the possibility to connect this device directly to your TV. If you now install the Boxee app on the NAS you can access all your media files and display them on your big TV screen. With Boxee it's even possible to install an iOS or Android App on your tablet or smartphone to then use this device as remote control.
