Connectors and I/O
ASUS equipped the X99 Deluxe II with eight angled SATA ports. All ports offer
6Gbps bandwidth and all of them ports are natively wired to the
X99 PCH. Apart from that there are two straight SATA 6Gbps ports.
Other than that you also get two SATA Express ports, two U.2 connectors and an M.2 x4 slot, whereas the M.2 will have to be installed perpendicular to the motherboard, supported by a metal frame. You'll also find practical onboard
power- and reset-buttons as well as a debug LED on this board, which is
definitely something you can expect from todays high-end board. What's standard
since quite a few generations is the MemOK buttons which has proven useful quite
a few times.
In total there are
six fan headers on the X99 Deluxe which is more than enough, to provide a well
equipped high-end or workstation with fresh air. They have been located
close to the CPU as well as spread over the board. Other than that it's a good
thing that all of them feature four pins, which allows for rpm regulation in
BIOS as well as under Windows.
Looking at the external connectors at the I/O-panel we
see a BIOS flash back button, three USB 3.1 Type-A and one Type-C connector, four USB 3.0 as well as four USB 2.0 ports, two gigabit ethernet ports, as well as an optical out and an
analogue audio panel. There are also three connectors to attach WiFi antennas.
