Connectors and I/O
In total
ASUS equipped the X99-A/USB 3.1 (Transfer Express) with eight angled SATA ports. All ports offer
6Gbps bandwidth and they have been natively wired to the
X99 PCH. Other than that there is one SATA Express port, natively wired to the PCH
as well as an M.2 x2 slot, which has been located right below the PCH cooler.
Although this is not a high-end X99 motherboard you find practical onboard
power- and reset-buttons as well as a debug LED on this board. What's standard
with ASUS motherboards
since quite a few generations is the MemOK button which has proven useful quite
a few times.
There are
six fan headers on the X99-A/USB 3.1 (Transfer Express) which is more than enough, to provide a well
equipped high-end system or workstation with fresh air. The fan headers are located
close to the CPU as well as spread over the board. Other than that it's a good
thing that all of them feature four pins, which allows for rpm regulation in
BIOS as well as under Windows.
Looking at the external connectors directly at the back-panel ASUS
equipped the X99-A/USB 3.1 (Transfer Express) USB 3.1 with a BIOS flash back button, one PS/2 mouse/keyboard
connector, two USB 3.1, four USB 3.0/2.0 ports,
four USB 2.0/1.1 ports, one gigabit ethernet port, as well as an optical out and an
analogue audio panel.
