The case we were supplied with for this build comes to us from SilverStone in the form of their Temjin series TJ04-E Evolution. What might arguably be considered a Lian-Li PC6/7 lookalike, the SilverStone TJ04/E has a similar clean and understated appearance that is sure to appeal to a wide audience. Quite a lot has changed in the PC world in the last decade so one must wonder, has SilverStone's venerable Temjin case undergone a true evolution to keep pace?
Most enthusiasts, professionals and hardcore gamers i happen to know prefer to house their systems inside the largest PC Cases possible for a variety of reasons (spacious interiors is the most significant one obviously) something that i also prefer to do myself. However although people may want to house a system inside a large PC case that's not always possible due to space limitations and so just like a friend told me recently the only possible choice is to pick one of the smaller midi tower PC cases. These may not share the same features and spacious interiors as the larger Full and HPTX towers but we've seen quite a few interesting models from time to time that even we ourselves would use if we ever came upon any kind of space restrictions. Well since we are falling back slightly with our PC case reviews today on our test bench we have one of the latest midi towers to hit the market the 6018B MOD Series Chassis which is manufactured by X2 a subsidiary of the well-known Spire.
Cooler Master seem to be hitting the market hard with a range of great new products this year, we've seen the incredible Aluminium range peripherals get released, while their other gaming peripherals are still winning awards, they launched one of the best new cases of the year with the budget friendly N200, the impressive new HAF chassis models are doing well and their big hitters such as the Cosmos range are going strong, so what else could Cooler Master possibly need to do to improve their position in our minds? How about a new Silencio chassis, maybe that will do it.
I've always loved the older Silencio chassis models, they've always been well priced, well made and offered a fair few features such as sleek looks, good compatibility along with a little sound proofing and for a mid market chassis, that's usually more than enough to temp a system builder. The new one looks set to continue that trend by being affordable (around £50), being compact with an mATX form factor, offering noise dampening panels, having two fans included, support for water cooling, large CPU coolers, dual USB 3.0 ports and a built in SD Card reader, which is put simply, impressive for this kind of budget.
When it comes to cases there is only so much you can fit inside and that sort of limits what type of system you can build. Well Enermax wants to break that barrier with their Fulmo GT Full Tower case. This is not just any full tower case, this is one of the biggest cases I’ve ever had in to review! The case not only supports ATX and XL-ATX motherboards, but even larger form factors like E-ATX and HPTX! On top of that there is room for 10 hard drives, 4 optical drives and 15 fans! (5 are pre-installed). Not only that there are 10 expansion slots so you could put together one beefy workstation or ultimate gaming machine. Having all of this space is great, but has Enermax put all of the other finishing touches on this case to make it a contender against the likes of NZXT, Cooler Master and Fractal Design? Earlier this year, Corsair released their flagship chassis, the Obsidian 900D. A bit later a mini version came out, the 350D. Almost like the mini versions from smartphone brands such as Samsung and HTC, there are many similarities with the bigger sibling, but the features are less extensive and less advanced. It's smaller, more affordable and it will only fit micro-ATX motherboards.
BitFenix have quite a solid reputation for their chassis products, they've always offered some really nice quality designs that don't cost the earth, just take a look at the BitFenix Prodigy for example. The Ronin looks set to continue that trend of high quality design at a reasonable price and it will be interesting to see what BitFenix have to offer.
The Ronin is priced at a mid-market friendly £70 (prices taken from Google Shopping) and that sets it along side some tough competition from the likes of NZXT, Corsair and Cooler Master, all of whom have award winning ATX chassis for around the same price, so the Ronin will have to offer something unique to stand out amongst the crowd. Fortunately, BitFenix are promising some unique features here such as their Stealth Cover and SofTouch surface treatment. As we can see, there is some good component compatibility available, with room for a good amount of storage, cooling as well as ATX, mATX and mITX motherboards. With that out of the way, lets push on and take a look at what else the Ronin has to offer.

Since this is my first venture into building a system inside an M-ITX PC case I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I started out. I had certain expectations of the Lian Li PC-Q28; I knew it would take a full size ATX PSU (up to 17cm) and double slot video cards (up to 29cm long). The Lian Li PC-Q28 PC case, while small, has a large internal volume and will make for an excellent enthusiast M-ITX case with a few tweaks and mods. Swedish company Fractal Design was also present at the Computex 2013 trade show in Taipei Taiwan. We saw some nice watercooled enclosures and this triggered our desire to review another one of their cases. The Fractal Arc Midi R2 is designed from the ground up to maximize airflow, thus main objective is keeping the most demanding hardware at cool operating temperatures. Three 140mm fans should take care of that goal Hassle free watercooling installation is also warranted, supporting up to two 240mm RADs in a mid tower case is quite impressive. On paper the ARC Midi R2 has got a lot to offer. Time to explore another mid tower creation from Fractal Design.
