Cases
Perhaps best known for their work with aluminum PC cases Lian Li has recently released the PC-888 which will be the focus of this review. Lian Li has a wide range of media center cases, small, medium, and full tower cases in addition to a line of power supplies. With more than 20 years manufacturing cases for the PC market Lian Li has more than enough experience in what works and how to engineer it. On the whole, I'm pretty impressed with In Win's Matrix tiny-tower chassis. It has a distinctive look and sports some very nice features for a case of this size. The pearl white/black color scheme is refreshing and the multiple doors maintain a uniform look while providing easy access to the external drives and ports. I'm also impressed with the cooling scheme In Win uses here. It's no mean feat to cool a chassis this small and crowded, but the Matrix does a good job in this respect, all the while keeping noise to a minimum.
FT01 is a high-quality all-aluminum mid-tower case from SilverStone, targeted to the very exigent user. Its superior quality is achieved by using a "unibody" chassis, i.e. the top, front and bottom panels of the case are made by a single aluminum sheet (very thick, by the way) that was bent using automotive-level press machines, a concept that was introduced by the Tejmin TJ07 case from the same manufacturer. Die Firma Lian Li dürfte wohl jedem bekannt sein, der Interesse an edlen Gehäusen hat. Mit dem neusten Produkt der Koreaner bekommt das Wort "Tower" eine ganz neue Bedeutung. Denn die Höhe von fast 70 cm, findet man bei einem Computergehäuse nicht sehr häufig. Desweiteren bietet das immerhin über 400 Euro teure Gehäuse sehr viele Besonderheiten, wie zum Beispiel das Chassi, das sich deutlich von dem normaler Gehäuse unterscheidet.
