We've already taken a look at Corsair's superb H100i Hydro series CPU cooler. You can read that review here. However, we are now going right to the other end of the Corsair Hydro series by taking a look at the new H55.
The Corsair Hydro series has been more or less entirely revamped in the past few months with new variants of all coolers that include either better tubing, better pumps, better fans or all of those improvements. The H55 is right at the lower end of the new Hydro series just above the H50 and H40 which are both very similar products. Put in simpler terms the H55 is an improved version of the Corsair H50 so will bring the benefits of all-in-one liquid coolers but without the size or price premium of the H80i and H100i. It also represents a maturation of the all-in-one liquid cooler concept that should give better performance with a smaller size compared to previous generation liquid coolers.

I have seen a lot of love on many forums about the performance capabilities of the H50 we tested not too long ago. What I have seen time and time again, is that users are at least opting for a second fan. I learned over the years that a push/pull setup, when configured correctly, can seriously benefit the efficiency of the cooler. Corsair has listened and read what everyone was saying and revamped the H50. Hopefully with the new ideas and implementations, Corsair’s latest submission could top the charts in AIO cooling.

Liquid CPU coolers have become quite prevalent over the last couple years, and you can’t help but notice another one pop up on the market here and there, especially from Corsair. Ivy Bridge and Haswell CPUs are very well known to be large heat producers, so one needs a better solution to cool them down. The market for all in one cooling solutions is booming. Corsair initially had a good lineup with their Asetek Hydro H50 and H70 coolers. Though they jumped on the CoolIT wagon to enter a more niche market. There was more than just the demand for good cooling. Casemodders and gamers want control over LEDs, Fans, being able to create and monitor different fan profiles,... Corsairs answer is the Link software, a rebrand of the CoolIT Maestro software. The Hydro 60 was Link ready, though it's performance was inbetween the two older Hydro models. Secondly Antec took the performance crown with their 920 cooler, so it was time to react. Let's see if Corsairs latest offering, the Hydro 80 has improved on the previous generations.

All-in-one water coolers have been worthy of some pretty big debates. Are they actually needed, do they serve a niche need, or are they an option for everyone? - Does their cost at release justify the results? - When I first was seeing samples of this type of unit, I so far have yet to be overly impressed. While these units are easy to install, easier to clean than an air cooler and do look really clean in any build, up to date, performance or noise levels at that performance were just not justified for the cost.
