Continuing the history of dabbling in water cooling, Zalman has delivered the Reserator 3 MAX AIO CPU cooler as its latest venture into this field.
Zalman has always had a unique approach to CPU cooling. Focusing on quiet performance, they’ve once again returned with their distinctive circular design to…wait, what’s this? An all-in-one water cooler with a round radiator?? Well…from a company known for “Cool Innovations,” I guess we shouldn’t be surprised to see such a unique contribution to the All-In-One CPU cooler market. When you first see it in person, it isn’t difficult to see why the Zalman Reserator 3 MAX AIO liquid CPU cooler was given the Innovation award from the Consumer Electronics Show at the beginning of 2013. Complete with an infusion of nanofluids and a claimed 400W of cooling power, does the Reserator 3 MAX have the performance to back up the looks? Benchmark Reviews is ready to place this unique AIO nanofluid cooler on an overclocked FX processor to see what the Reserator 3 MAX is capable of.
Today we are going to take a look at the Zalman Reserator 3 Max Dual. The Reserator 3 Max Dual, if you didn't catch by the name, is essentially a dual version of the Reserator 3 Max combined into a single solution. With more cooling surface, we now have more room to dissipate heat that our CPU may be throwing off, also giving overclockers an added benefit to push their processor to the limits with little worry.
The Zalman Reserator 3 Max Dual is an interesting piece, there is no doubt about that. The design is unlike any other CLC on the market, and it brings some very interesting features to the table. While different is not always necessarily better, we have learned from experience that Zalman’s circular and offbeat designs have worked very well, and were not simply form over function type of thinking.
With nearly 15 years in the business, Zalman have built themselves quite the reputation. They have a loyal following thanks to their high build quality and innovative designs. I must admit, Zalman may not be the first brand that spring to mind when your thinking about components, but we’ve been eager to see what their new all-in-one water cooler can do non the less.
All-in-one (AIO) watercoolers are more popular than ever, in fact it may be safer to say that water cooling is more popular than ever, AIO coolers just make it easy and more accessible to those who don’t want to build custom loops. AIO are often much cheaper than a custom radiator / pump configuration and offer near plug-and-play compatibility with super low maintenance. For the most part, water cooling can offer improved performance over air cooling and reap huge benefits for overclocked systems, so it is easy to see why people are so attracted to it.
Below we have a quote from Zalman’s website that details the special coolant they’ve used to fill the radiator, something which combined with the overall design, won Zalman an Innovation Award at CES 2013;
“Zalman with its unique technology came up with the world first nanofluids refrigerant applied cooler to maximize the cooling performance.”
So with Zalmans reliable history of making CPU coolers and high consumer demand for accessible and powerful water coolers, the Zalman Reserator 3 Max has a lot to live up to, so let’s get right to it and see what Zalmans new cooler has to offer.
As you can see it’s fairly well equipped and while the radiator does mount on a 120mm fan mount, it isn’t a typical 120mm radiator due to its unique design and integrated fan, but well take a close look at that in a moment.

According to the latest sales charts we checked by several manufacturers around the globe it seems that CPU Air Coolers are still holding 1st place and are followed by AIO Liquid CPU Coolers (not very close) and complete custom water cooling kits.
