This time we are testing the Zalman CNPS11X Extreme CPU cooler. It has a V-shape heatsink, one 120 mm fan and five heatpipes. Let's check its performance.
Aircooling
Zalman really has it going on with the new 11X Extreme. The five composite heatpipes and the innovative design allow its fan to provide some excellent cooling with very reasonable acoustics. Really, the only complaint I have about the 11X is the mounting solutions. While the cooler is very secure with this mounting scheme, I miss the ease with which most previous Zalman coolers could be installed, even inside the case.
Aircooling
Last I remember from Zalman, I was testing the CNPS10X coolers, of which there were four versions in total - two of which I got to look at personally. There was the Performa and the Extreme, both of which were typical tower based designs with a top cover and other tricks specific to the series. The cooler we are about to see takes on some of the attributes of these coolers, but harks back to the CNPS7 series of coolers for its outer appearance. You might even say both got their concept for the CNPS5, but we aren't splitting hairs here and it looks much more like the 7 series.

The Zalman CNPS11X Extreme is equipped with one 120mm PWM fan that rotates at 1000-1950RPM and moves air through a pair of thin aluminum fin towers set at 80-degress to each other. Five 6mm diameter composite wick heatpipes conduct heat from the copper base plate to the twin 100mm fin stacks. Zalman use composite copper heatpipes on the CNPS11X Extreme heatsink; there's no way to illustrate the wick structure on the inside of the heatpipes without destroying the CNPS11X Extreme in the process, so Frostytech did just that with the aid of a diamond saw.

The CNPS11X Performa is another member of the CNPS11X family, like the CNPS11X Extreme that we already tested. Similar to its brother, it has a V-shaped heatsink and a 120 mm fan, but it has only four heatpipes. Let's test it and discover which one performs better.

This time, we tested the Zalman CNPS12X, the world's first CPU cooler with three fans. It also has six heatpipes and two heatsinks. Check it out!

When it comes to CPU coolers there are some companies we know and trust and Zalman is one of them. We have been reviewing Zalman CPU coolers for quite sometime now and they always seem to impress us. Their radical designs, quality materials, ease of use and great performance make them one of the premier brands when it comes to CPU cooling. At CES this year we got a glimpse of Zalman’s largest CPU cooler to date the CNPS12X. This massive CPU cooler features three 120mm fans, a dual heatsink design and 6 copper heatpipes. Today we have the CNPS12X installed and ready to test, read on to see the results!

The Zalman CNPS12X heatsink marks the first foray into exposed base heatpipe coolers for its Korean manufacturer. The other notable aspect of the CNPS12X is that it's equipped with not one, not two, but THREE low-RPM 120mm fans. Zalman's CNPS12X heatsink retails for around $80USD and happens to be the first Intel LGA2011 compatible heatsink to cross Frostytech's test bench! Something to keep in mind if your picking up an Intel X79 motherboard and socket LGA2011 Intel Sandybridge-E processor shortly.

The Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2 is a top-of-the-line CPU cooler. With the fans on high it's the best-performing cooler that we've ever tested, and with fans on low it's the most efficient. It makes it a great cooler for serious overclocking and for creating a silent PC, and even for a combination of both. The Zalman CNPS12X is also not a bad CPU cooler, and has its looks going for it. Performance-wise it's not on the level of the Be Quiet cooler, however.
