Now Scythe are back with a new range of products and one of the newest is the Ashura tower cooler. Today we test it against a range of coolers on our socket 2011 system to find out how it might enhance our thermal performance.

With smartphones, tablets, and laptops being in more and more hands every day, comes the need for gadgets to make your life even more convenient when using these devices. Everyone wants to share pictures, videos, and other media with their friends, but there isn't really a very convenient way to do this, outside of social networking websites. Not only that, but a lot of people are unable to get through the day without having to charge their phones. ADATA has come up with the DashDrive Air AE400 to help make media sharing easier between these devices, and also provide an extra charge to your smartphone or tablet...

Noctua is always innovating with new product designs and they’ve just introduced a new tower style cooler, the NH-U12S which is what I have for review today. This cooler is a thin design, it’s only 45mm deep which makes it ideal for using with performance style ram that utilizes large style heatspreaders as it doesn’t protrude over the ram slots of the majority of motherboards made today. The cooler utilizes the Noctua NF-F12 which is a 120mm forced focus fan that’s made specifically for use with CPU coolers. The NH-U12S can use one fan or you can purchase an additional fan for even more cooling performance, with one or two fans the NH-U12S runs virtually silent like most all Noctua products. I’ve put the NH-U12S up against several other coolers for comparison, and it performs very well indeed, so read on to learn more…

All In One liquid CPU coolers are becoming increasingly common in the CPU cooler market, yet we haven't really seen them arrive in the VGA cooler market to date. Arctic were the first company that I know of to start this trend off. Shortly after Arctic released their first AIO liquid cooled VGA cooler, the same principle was used by ASUS in their ARES II graphics card. The Arctic Accelero Hybrid 7970 VGA Cooler we are looking at today is only intended for a single GPU graphics card. This cooler can best be described as a Corsair H55 for graphics cards as it features an Asetek OEM pump design and a single thickness 120mm radiator with a 120mm fan. In addition it comes with a plastic shroud that has a smaller 80mm frameless fan to cool the VRM area.
Arctic are one of the biggest players in the VGA cooling game as most companies have stopped producing VGA coolers because graphics card vendors are gradually producing better and better in-house VGA coolers that make third party solutions almost extinct. If you have paid attention to the graphics card market recently you will have seen the likes of Inno3D offer this graphics card cooler pre-fitted to some of their products. That said, Arctic seem to be doing well whilst other companies are discontinuing their VGA cooler product lines.

Alpenfohn are still a bit of an obscure brand name these days in English speaking countries but they are definitely up and coming thanks to hugely successful products like the “K2 Mount Doom”. Their name is much more prevalent across mainland Europe as Alpenfohn originate from Germany. Yet in the UK we are seeing them pop up more and more with Overclockers UK and CaseKing working really hard to spread their products. Alpenfohn are dark horses in the cooling market producing some really high quality “German-engineered” products at a very affordable price point.
Today we are looking at their Matterhorn Pure CPU cooler which is a rather large tower heatsink cooler ventilated by a 120mm fan yet packs a very modest £30 price point. The specifications are pretty impressive too and I haven’t really seen six 6mm heat pipes on such a low cost unit before so it will be interesting to see whether this bodes any advantage for our test system. Though what tends to happen on LGA 1155 is because the CPU die is so small that only 4-5 heat pipes can actually make contact with the IHS and move heat, so having six versus four heat pipes is only a really big advantage for LGA 2011.

Is it an improvement from the past even if the specs don't say so? Let's see how the testing goes.
