Noctua released a couple of new additions to their NH-U series this year, that included the NH-U12S and NH-U14S. If you haven't had a chance to read our Noctua NH-U12S review then be sure to read that here because it was a really awesome product. Now we have the second new addition in for review, the NH-U14S.

Airflow is driven by a single 120mm PWM fan whose snow white 7-bladed impeller rotates at your basic 2200RPM to 800RPM. Noise output is moderate. Because computer enthusiasts tend to be picky bunch, Evercool have tossed in one extra set of wire fan clips.

Noctua's S12A 120mm fans is the 3rd generation Signature series line designed for case ventilation. The Noctua S12A is available in three versions: PWM, FLX and ULN. Both the FLX and PWM versions run at a maximum of 1200 RPM with an airflow rating of 107.5 m3/h while the ULN version runs at a lower 800 RPM with an airflow rating of 74.3 m3/h. Unlike the 2nd generation S12 series fan, the new S12A series are equipped with anti-stall knobs that reduce flow separation in medium to high impedance situations, increasing the fan’s versatility. Also part of Noctua’s Advanced Acoustical Optimization design are the inner surface microstructures as well as the stepped inlet design which improves airflow and minimizes noise during operation. All three Noctua S12A 120mm fans use Noctua's SSO2 bearings with a MTBF of 150,000 hours and carry a 6-year warranty.

SilverStone make some of the best air CPU coolers in the industry at both the high performance premium end of the market and cost-effective budget end of the market. Today we have with us an offering from SilverStone that is very much a budget offering. The SilverStone AR01 is part of SilverStone's Argon series of CPU coolers and this particular unit will be one of three, the AR01, AR02 and AR03. The AR02 will be a shrunken version of the AR01 and the AR03 will be a higher performance version using six heat pipes designed for bigger CPUs like LGA 2011 and LGA 1366.

The Cougar Dual-X is designed to push a large amount of air while maintain silence. The Dual-X accomplishes this by using a hydraulic bearing so there is less friction. The nine blades of the fan have two layers and are rigid material. The blade design also features claws. The combination of these features allow the fan to produce more pressure while decreasing turbulence and noise levels. Other noise reducing features are rubber pads and rubber fixed pin mounts to reduce the vibrations that are transferred into the chassis. Accessories include a 3-pin to 4-pin Molex fan adapter, tool-less fixed pins, and fan screws.

The Katana 4 performs better than the Cooler Master Hyper T4 and Hyper TX3, both in terms of cooling and noise. The Scythe Ashura cools very well when its fan is turning at high speed, but it's also noisy. When the fan is at low speed, the cooler is completely quiet, but also cools poorly.

The Spire X2 120mm PWM fan runs between 600 and 1500 RPM and is practically inaudible with noise levels between 10 and 22 dBA. The X2 120mm fan is capable of pushing 62.53 CFM at 1500 RPM while producing 1.74mm H2O of static air pressure. To further reduce noise levels the X2 features removable silicone rubber pads on each of the screw holes. Using their Nano Tech Bearing technology they can increase the fan blade size and achieve a MTBF of 70,000 hours. The X2 120mm PWM fan features four blue LEDS. In addition red LED lighting and 140mm, 92mm, and 80mm sizes are available.

Buona lettura !

I have to admit something; I hate top down air coolers. I can’t put my finger on what it is about them I so dislike. Perhaps it’s simply that they don’t tend to perform very well. Or maybe it’s just their strong dissymmetry that rubs me the wrong way. Whatever it is, something inside tells me to take a tower cooler over them any day. And so it is with great fear and trepidation that I present another air cooling product from German manufacturers, be quiet!, the Shadow Rock TopFlow SR1. Please follow along as I attempt to prove my instincts wrong., or right, as we find out how this cooler performs.
