I want you to imagine for a moment that your laptop or desktop has just crashed. Every personal document, every e-mail, every file and photo is gone. All of the data on the hard drive is gone. . . What do you do? Attempt to recover the data by yourself? So I ask the question "When does your data become important and what do you do with your valuable data?

Until 2009, Solid State Drive (SSD) popularity was only growing in the elite enthusiast circles. Then along comes the Indilinx Barefoot chip, which quickly became the backbone SSD controller for over a dozen different products. Crucial, being The Memory Experts that they are, have returned to the market with their second SSD product. By most accounts, this isn't par for the course when you consider how often the competition reveals a new product line. Equipped with the test-proven Indilinx Barefoot controller and 64MB of DRAM buffer, Crucial is insured that the M225-series will deliver outstanding performance. Benchmark Reviews tests the bandwidth speed and IOPS performance for the Crucial M225 128GB SATA-II SSD CT128M225 against a large contingent of desktop storage products in this article.

Today I have the Cirago 250GB Portable USB Hard Drive for review. The CST5250 is one of the smallest 2.5” external hard drives I’ve come across, making it very portable, but portable doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t perform well. The CST5250 is also nicely made, it has a metal housing so it should be able to endure a bit of daily abuse and the metal should help keep it cooler as well.

For a good example of the features a modern optical drive should have, look no further than the Lite-On iHAS424 DL-DVD burner. It's got everything you'd expect from a DVD-writer, including dual-layer DVD writing and reading, compatibility with both + and - formats, as well as support for lightscribe label burning if you have photosensitive media. Of course, it'll also read and write CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

This year, give your loved one a little space. Storage space, that is. Christmas is just around the corner, and there’s no better gift for that nerd in your family than external storage for all those downloaded episodes of Heroes that are cluttering up precious hard drive space. Verbatim has once again outdone themselves on space and simple coolness with the InSight Portable Hard Drive. This sleek piece of blackness comes in sizes of 350GB as well as 500GB and features Always On display technology. I’ll get into that in a few minutes, but right now let’s get a better look at the HDD itself and what it brings to the storage table.

Not to go on and on about the web interface- as much as I dislike it, I digress. The N0503 is packed with features, and it is flexible. The N0503 is fast- there is no doubt about that and even in RAID 5 it manages to sustain some excellent numbers. For a three drive NAS, or five 2.5″ drive NAS the N0503 happens to fall into the more expensive side of things, but alas is the nature of performance hardware.
