Up on the review block today is Cirago’s TV Platinum CMC2000 1.5TB Network Multimedia Center. I personally have not yet had the opportunity to review anything like this for the site, so this was an exciting product to receive. The box boasts that it contains a 1.5TB hard drive for storage of recorded video and pictures, can record live TV, stream media, play internet radio, access files over your network via built-in NAS and look at all types of pictures. That’s a lot of stuff, so let’s take a look.
Walton Chaintech, a company which manufactures lots of products like SSDs, Memory Modules, Memory Cards and Graphics Cards, does also produce Flash Drives. The AstroDrive 266X I have received for review is the smallest in the series, maroon colored. The flash drive has very good performances right out of the box, but Walton Chaintech also included a special utility on the drive to boost the performance even more.
Seagate recently released the FreeAgent GoFlex series of products that put a unique spin on portable hard drives and how we can use them. The GoFlex series is meant to be, as the name suggests, flexible and they are in that the drive itself can be used with many types of interfaces by just swapping the connector on it so you’re not limited to just using USB, you can choose from FireWire, eSATA or even USB 3.0. That’s only part of it though, the GoFlex series also includes other pieces of hardware that can be used with the drives like a media player and a network hard drive dock, both of which I have for review in addition to the GoFlex 500Gb Ultra-Portable Hard Drive that we’ll be looking at today. Die Frage die sich stellt ist, ob sich das sehr wertige Äußere auch auf das Innere überträgt und ob alle Anschlüsse eine hohe Performance bieten. The DS210+ can manage up to 2x2TB drives, a phenomenal amount of space for a small and medium business user or someone like me with a massive home network, and I know there are many more like me out there! The performance of the DS210+ speaks for itself, it's fast. We are at the point where Gigabit technology will soon be the limitation on NAS units. The DS210+ puts out 110MB/s read and close to 80MB/s write when the theoretical maximum of Gigabit is only 125MB/s. How will Synology improve upon what they have now is anyone's guess.
Es existieren Situationen, in denen das Alignment einer SSD nicht optimal eingestellt ist. Das kann eine Windows 7-Installation auf einer HDD nach Partitionierung mit einem ungeeigneten Tool sein, aber auch eine Migration des "alten" Systems von einer HDD auf eine SSD kommt in FRage, besonders dann, wenn Windows 7 auf der HDD mit einem falschen Offset (Alignment) installiert wurde. Da bekanntlich die Performance und auch Lebensdauer einer SSD bei einem falschen Wert des Alignment leidet, stellt sich die Frage, ob es ohne Datenverlust und Neuinstallation möglich ist, das Alignment auf den richtigen Wert nachträglich zu korrigieren. In terms of performance, Synology's DS411+ is tough to beat. Both read and write speeds are blazing fast and it can easily handle multiple, simultaneous file transfers. All in all, the unit is consistent with what I've come to expect from Synology – stable, intuitive, flexible, quiet, and easy to set up.
USB 3.0 is being weaved into the marketplace one motherboard and notebook at a time. My last three motherboards have included at least two USB 3.0 ports and my new Lenovo mobile workstation also includes a single USB 3.0 port. Next year we should see the eradication of USB 2.0 all together; a move that I support not only because it will give me more products to write about, but because transferring data five times as fast saves everyone a lot of time.
