Consumers have more choice than ever when it comes to two-disk NAS devices. Prices are all over the place, and the features range from very basic to impressively advanced and comprehensive. Hardware.Info tested 24 different NAS devices in different price classes so you should be able to find one that exactly fits both your storage needs and your budget.

We take a look at five of the latest 240 GB SATA-600 solid state drives to see how their performance compares. We will be testing the Crucial M4 C400, Intel 510 Series, Mushkin Chromos, OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS, and OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G. Lets see which one comes out on top!

The last time we tested the OCZ Vertex 4, it was powered by a dual-core Marvell controller that combined technology from separate sources. This time, the OCZ Vertex 450 solid state drive is made of in-house components. Featuring an Indilinx BF3-M10 Barefoot 3 controller that supports 20nm Synchronous Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash components with AES-256 encryption and Trim support, Vertex 450 is good for 540 MB/s read speeds over a SATA 6-Gb/s connection. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the 240GB OCZ Vertex 450 SSD, model VTX450-25SAT3-256G, against the leading competition.

On February 28th we published our first review of the SanDisk Extreme 240GB, the first 24nm flash drive on the market with a SandForce flash processor unit. In the review we focused mainly on the low price point of the drive since the performance was still very close to the large number of Team SandForce drives using 25nm IMFT flash. What we didn't know at the time was our test systems were compromised in some way. I would love to give an explanation, but I honestly don't have one. It wasn't just the primary test system, but both identical systems and even a fresh build system based on another chipset, the older P67 test rig.
To make matters worse, even a brand new build based on another company's Z68 board did the same thing. After spending 18 to 20 hours a day working on the issue Chad Sebring chimed in with an idea, look at the drivers. All of the systems were using the same chipset drivers, but we were trying different RST drivers. After downloading a different set of drivers from a different web page we had TRIM again. It's safe to say that for the next couple of weeks I will hate computers. I HATE YOU COMPUTERS!!!

SSDs are of course the hippest and fastest form of storage, but if you want lots of storage capacity without breaking the bank, you're still relegated to the familiar realm of the hard disk. There's still some choice out there in this category, and price are slowly creeping down. Hardware.Info tested and compared 25 hard disks ranging in capacity from 250 GB to 4 TB.

What happens when you have an infinite supply of hard drive parts, 400 hours and a passion for hard drive and race cars? Rob Ryan, Western Digital (WD) Technologist, Advanced Concepts Team, and his family set out to create a WD F1 car unlike anything the world has ever seen.

When it comes to digital storage, you can't have enough. Whether you download a lot of music, take a lot of pictures, or are a file hoarder, you know the GB's can add up. Now-a-days, companies are offering large drives, and don't make you sacrifice speed to do so. Seagate was one of the first to break the 1TB drive mark, and has always been on the cutting edge of drive size and performance. Seagate has sent us their latest Barracuda Low Power 2TB Hard Drive to see if it stacks up to the competition.

Taking all of this into consideration, most users simply can't afford / stomach the pain to spend $800 for only 64 GB of storage capacity regardless of what kind of memory it uses. But, these same users also desire something that is quick and won't cause stuttering / pauses when used as an OS drive, a common problem with early generation SSDs. For those that fall into this category, OCZ created the Apex Series of solid state drives. Utilizing an internal RAID 0 configuration to help eliminate poor performance and stuttering, can the OCZ Apex live up to our expectations of what a midrange MLC-based SSD should deliver?
