NAS or Network Attached Storage solutions are becoming a much more widely used device for businesses as well as inside the home. Within the corporate environment, the slot for a centralised data source has been filled in many instances by NAS storage allowing users to remotely access files and data.

Hello Folks! I’m back today with a double review for you, it’s a comparison between a brand name USB 3.0 Enclosure and one that’s a no-name enclosure, both of which were provided by Brando for our review today. The enclosures themselves though are very different from each other, one is a simple metal casing, while the other is stylish looking and metal as well but it has a built-in fan to keep the hard drive inside cool. So read on…

The Thecus N4200 arrived and since NAS servers take a very long time to test, I dove right in taking my pictures of the box, kind of glancing over things and moving along. When it was time to open things up is when it hit me like a steam roller. The new OLED display is just gorgeous, a real improvement over the old display. At that point I turned the unit around and the real shock came; there is a battery slot and more importantly, a battery!

The SandForce SF-1222TA3-SBH processor is part of the SF-1200 SSD controller family, and through various new technology implementations SandForce has redefined performance expectations for the entire solid state storage landscape. Not only are bandwidth speeds extremely fast (nearly saturating the SATA-3GB/s interface), but operational IOPS performance reaches SLC-NAND levels. Additionally, SandForce RAISE technology provides redundant protection for single SSD computer systems, and data is automatically secured with AES-128 encryption. Benchmark Reviews has individually tested the ADATA S599, Corsair Force F100, and RunCore ProV SSDs, all which use the SandForce SF-1200 controller, but we've never experimented with these drives in a combined array. For this article, Benchmark Reviews tests two SandForce SF-1200 SSDs in a striped RAID-0 array to unleash absolute performance.

Sunbeamtech has released a new USB 3.0 version of its popular Airbox 3.5" External SATA Enclosure which we have for review today. In addition to the Airbox, Sunbeamtech also offers a 2.5"/3.5" USB 3.0 docking station and a dual-port USB 3.0 PCI-E 1x expansion card. The Airbox USB 3.0 enclosure is identical to their eSATA version with the exception of the interface. It is an aluminum body, single 3.5" drive external enclosure featuring an 8cm blue LED cooling fan and detachable stand for optional vertical orientation.

Out of nowhere the SandForce label went from being associated with a good product that is going to cost an arm and a leg, to a great product that is not only the fastest on the market, but has a reasonable cost, too. When looking at the benchmarks we see that there really isn’t a whole lot of difference between testing with the Microsoft and Intel drivers, but it is enough to surpass Crucial’s C300 in most real world performance categories. Just like the old saying, second place is the first loser; the SF-1200 controlled products were now holding the top honors and something to get excited about.

Compact USB Flash Drives are certainly the direction companies are heading and rightfully so, everyone wants something small that can fit in a pocket and feel like nothing. The only problem with it becomes when you lose something so small. It would be a disaster if confidential data was leaked to the competition through an unsecure flash drive. With the Patriot Memory Bolt you can be confident that once encrypted with a password the data can't be accessed without unlocking the device. After ten brute force attacks the data is simply formatted from the drive.

So far this year we have tested several USB 3.0 devices including a USB 3.0 drive dock and two USB 3.0 external enclosures. Today we have a USB 3.0 kit for review from Computer Geeks that is comprised of a USB 3.0 ExpressCard, USB 3.0 enclosure and a 2.5" SATA drive. By combining the interface card, enclosure and drive into one bundle, Geeks offers a complete package upgrade for those laptop users on the go who need fast, affordable storage. Join me as I take a closer look at the Computer Geeks USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 2.5" External Hard Drive Kit.
