Regular readers will know of the challenge submitted to KitGuru by OCZ – to kill 5 of their ARC 100 Solid State Drives. If you need a recap, then head back to this original page posted on December 10th.
The drives all passed the warranty figure of 300TB on 3rd February 2015 – but one of them has just failed with 322TB showing before failure.

Today we are reviewing the Kingston HyperX Savage SSD 480Gb Standalone Kit, and once we are done with it, we are giving it away. In the office we only use SSDs for our main builds, gaming or general office rigs, we wouldn't consider using anything else. We use a number of HDDs in our Server, and one or two for hot back ups, but that's it. We are always interested in testing a new SSD that we have never used, so let's get on

We may still be far away from a time when solid state drives regardless of type (PCIe/M.2/SATA) will replace mechanical disk drives altogether (largely due to capacity limitations) but as things stand today they have managed to replace them at least partially as the "weapon" of choice for use as a primary OS drive. Because of that most SSD manufacturers have shifted much of their focus from the production of high-performance models aimed towards enthusiasts, gamers and professionals to the production of entry-level "budget" models aimed towards casual users and gamers who are just now taking their first steps with this technology. OCZ made a great comeback after being acquired by Toshiba and after releasing two great SSD models (ARC 100 and Vector 180) it was just a matter of time before they too released a more "entry" level one and its name is the Trion 100.

In early September, 2008 Intel released their mainstream series of solid state drives. In its initial offfering Intel brought two drives to market, the X18-M and the X25-M built respectively on the 1.8" and 2.5" form factors. The initial capacity of these drives was 80 GB and recently a 160 GB version was released. Solid State Drives are rapidly changing the computing landscape, and many enthusiasts are using SSD technology in their primary systems to help boost performance. Benchmark Reviews has tested nearly all of the products available to the retail market in this sector, and several have done quite well while others fall flat. It used to be that performance was the largest hurdle for mass storage NAND Solid State Drives, followed by stability, and later price. In this review, we will give a thorough overview as well as benchmark test the linear bandwidth performance of the ! Intel X25-M 80 GB SSDSA2MH080G15E solid state SATA drive and compares it against the top competition.

The stand in particular turned out to be more rugged than I initially thought it would be. Despite that though, a drive mounted on the dock can still shimmy around pretty easily with the slightest touch. Because of this, it is probably best suited for an environment where it's not likely to be disturbed.

It is the WD Caviar Black 1TB drive I will be taking a look at today. The Black series, in addition to offering the greatest performance of Western Digital's consumer lineup of Caviar drives, also includes the same five year warranty as their more expensive Enterprise class. Sporting a class-standard SATA 3.0Gbps interface, 7200rpm spindle speed and a whopping 32Mb of cache, the WD1001FALS represents Western Digital's top of the line consumer grade hard drive.
