SD and MicroSD have the most popular type of memory card for some time. People use them for digital cameras, smartphones, tablets and other portable devices that require storage. There's a huge number of them on the market, and not all of them are equally fast. The specifications from the manufacturers won't be able to tell you, so Hardware.Info tested 49 of them to find out which ones are the fastest.

In the past we have taken a look at a variety of different SSD’s of all different sizes and shapes. Today we are going to check out something completely different. Today we are taking a look at a tiny 1.8 inch SSD that uses a PATA ZIF connection. For those of you who don’t know what a ZIF connection is, that is a zero insertion force connection. You typically see them inside of laptops and in this case this drive is normally used on small laptops and in some handheld devices. Being a PATA based (think IDE) these aren’t all about speed, but I wanted to check the drive out due to its size. So let’s take a look.

I remember a time when in the market you could only find USB flash drives by a handful of companies (the well-established ones) so it didn't really take more than just a few minutes for you to pick the one you liked the most especially since all their performance levels were nearly identical (and if by some miracle a really faster model got released well you immediately knew which one it was). Today things have changed massively and so if you walk to the USB flash drive section of pretty much any store you will find a large number of models from an equally large number of manufacturers making it quite hard to pick the right one for the job (providing of course you don't just care about the size or looks). That being said the sheer number of USB flash drive models currently in the market makes it impossible for us to test all of them in order to make it easier for all of you to know what it is that you are really getting with your hard earned money but giving up is not in our vocabulary so today we will be taking yet another thorough look at one such device the Blaze B20 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive by Silicon Power.

So you have an Apple IOS based device or an Android and you find yourself spending more time managing your media and files on the device than enjoying the content. Constantly plugging the device in to sync, move, delete, and upload new media to enjoy? You like many mobile users have discovered the fatal flaw for many of these devices. . . storage space. There just isn't enough for all your stuff. Well the Gauntlet 320 aims to give you some breathing room and make that management easier. It serves to provide more storage on the go and without the need to plug your device in an upload new files because the Gauntlet 320 is wireless. No more syncing, no more decisions about what to save and what to toss. Sound interesting? But does it work?

Samsung has boldly inserted themselves into the forefront of the consumer SSD market with apparent ease thanks to some innovation and a few outstanding drives. Just a few years ago, no one would have even mentioned their name in the same sentence with 'SSD' but now they are very much on the minds of consumers. Just taking a stroll through several computer hardware oriented online communities reveals a lot of positive chatter about the drives which come largely driven from online reviews and word of mouth recommendations as Samsung hasn't done a ton of marketing for their drives. Or maybe it just doesn't feel that way. Competitors, on the other hand, may have a different perception and have to be feeling the pressure. Especially those that are reliant on others for components for their builds whereas Samsung is completely self sufficient and can offer lower costs to consumers while still retaining a decent margin. We've recently had looks at the 840 and 840 Pro series of drives and now we've gotten our mitts on the 840 EVO version.

Verdict maintenant.

Chances are you have an external portable hard drive that uses the USB interface to backup your personal data. Devices like this have been around for over a decade and we are finding that most companies are having a hard time bringing new features and concepts to market. WD’s new My Passport Slim USB 3.0 portable hard drive doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but they were designed to be a step up from the previous models.
