Thecus has come up with something new in the world of NAS with three models that are supplied with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials. These NAS are described by Thecus as the ‘World’s first Windows Essential NAS’.
Storage
We take a look at the business class level of NAS from Thecus with the TopTower N6850.
Storage
The Thecus Top Tower N8850 is definitely an impressive NAS device, both in terms of design and performance. The firmware perhaps has some rough edges, but it's complete enough. It makes the Thecus Top Tower N8850 an interesting option if you want high performance and don't mind that it makes a little noise. It's great that you can upgrade the N8850 by adding a 10 Gigabit adapter or increasing the amount of RAM.

Thecus' Top Tower Series brings the power of a rackmount to a pedestal form. The N6850 is Thecus' entry level Top Tower, but it brings big performance and features.
Storage
The NAS market has really heated up this year. Personal, corporate and service based cloud computing have brought a new vigor to the industry. At the same time, reductions in cash flow have left companies asking for more features and expecting them at lower prices. The global war on energy and fossil fuels is driving power requirements down and putting a new emphasis on power efficiency. To meet the large list of demands, NAS manufacturers needed to go back to the drawing board, rethink their strategies, evaluate their designs from a new perspective and then finally execute with a laser like focus on the key areas that have emerged as features required for the next decade.
Storage
Just before Computex earlier this year Thecus announced their new N8800 Pro, an updated 8-Drive NAS server that was based on the N8800 and N8800+, but with even higher specifications and a stronger feature list. The Pro version turns the 8800 Series up to eleven with 4GB DDRII and a higher clocked Core 2 Duo Processor.

With the economy the way it is today, businesses don't want to spend to get more than they need. When most of us think about rack mount servers, we tend to get a picture of large rooms full of racks with exotic cooling and more blinking LED lights than you'd find on the Death Star. The reality is, though, that most small and medium sized businesses need only one or two servers and those servers are tasked with multiple roles.
Storage
Thecus’ N7700Pro belong in a class of its own. The N7700Pro is a robust platform. With today’s 2TB drives, in RAID 5 the N7700Pro can host a 12TB array and that’s simply something that carries some weight. The system is powered by a Core 2 Duo CPU and is outfitted with 4GB of RAM making it the most powerful NAS devices we’ve reviewed to date.

How much data storage is enough to satisfy your enterprise needs? Thecus would like to assure you their N7700 SATA-drive NAS server has you covered. With seven hot-swappable drive bays assembled into a rugged stackable chassis, the N7700 aims to safely house large collections of data in basic-disk JBOD, RAID-0, 1, 5, 6, and 10 arrays using either the EXT3, XFS or ZFS drive format. Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports can be configured for network load balancing, failover, or 802.3ad aggregation modes; and also adds up to 9000K MTU jumbo frame support to each. A single Intel Celeron M 440 processor powers the N7700 on a 533MHz FSB, using 1GB of single-channel DDR2 memory to process requests. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the bandwidth speed of the Thecus N7700 against several of the best Gigabit NAS servers available.
Storage
Thecus over the year have racked up a number of firsts in the network storage sector including the introduction of the worlds first five bay NAS, first NAS with 10GBase-T support, the first NAS with media display output via HDMI and more. Its safe to say that when it comes to thinking up fresh ideas for what the customer wants, they are a step ahead all the time.
