Addonics just introduced a low profile PCIe to M.2 SSD adapter. Read on as we check out the performance of its ADM2PX4 and give you our thoughts on it.

Today we are looking at a new mSATA drive from Plextor – the 128GB M5M. Diminutive mSATA drives are without doubt a growing market, adopted in many laptop computers today. As we have seen in recent desktop motherboard reviews on Kitguru many manufacturers are now including a mSATA slot, an ideal solution for a fast boot drive.

Intel’s 9-series chipset has launched and one of the most interesting features that it delivers is native support for M.2 SSDs. Devices using the M.2 (formerly NGFF) connector can differ in their connection to the chipset. Two common approaches used today are the M.2 PCIe variant, which uses PCIe connections, and M.2 SATA, which operates via a SATA controller commonly found on 2.5″ SSDs. We managed to bag an early engineering sample of an upcoming Kingston drive that uses the M.2 SATA approach. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

About this time last year, we were reviewing the Crucial M500 960GB This was the first drive to really put 1 TB of flash storage at a price where consumers could realistically own one. In the past year, Micron released the enterprise-focused M500 under their brand. They are now back with the M500DC that shares its roots with both of those drives.

ADATA recently announced availability of their new DashDrive Elite SE720 External SSD and sent one along to us for analysis. Without stealing the thunder of this entire report, the SE720 is ultrathin, extremely well-built, has LSI SandForce speeds and we were floored at the Amazon pricing we found that brought this external SSD below that of many similar bare 128GB SSDs. Let’s take a bit of a closer look and see just how well this external SSD is put together.

Back when I was in high school, I got this particular memorable encouragement note in a fellowship group activity from this girl in church. "Being outspoken all the time does not necessarily make you cool", it read. "Sometimes there is a need to shut up." Well, for one thing, this 'encouragement' note did not sound very... encouraging. And secondly, in my defense, it is not my fault I have so much to say. I am just so well learned in every subject, I simply cannot help it if everyone wants to listen to me, haha. You know what? Even I impress myself sometimes. I bet she is just jealous. At this point, you are probably tempted to hit the back button. You are probably thinking to yourself, "What a jerk. He is so cocky!" (Oh hey, how did I know that?) To quote what I always say, "It's not showing off if it's a fact". (By the way, if you don't want any friends, this is how you should act -- the note is real; the rest, I am just poking around with you, haha.) But let's pause for a moment and think. Is it really showing off if something is, in fact, brilliant? With a name like OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS, where 'vertex' means "the highest point; the top or apex" or "the crown of the head", '3' is self-explanatory, and 'Max IOPS' tacked on as an extra performance designation, I have to admit this sounds pretty ambitious to me. Or is it just so matchless and amazing in every way, the name is just a mere statement of the facts? Benchmarks are everything. Let's waste no time.

If you have been into computers any time over the past few decades, you probably know of PNY. They are an American company that manufactures graphics cards as well as all things flash. Over the past few years they have joined in on the SSD industry, offering some very competitive products. Today, we have one of their latest creations on our test bench, the CS2111 XLR8.

To anyone not familiar with SSDs, our title might not seem that striking, but it represents a huge step forward in storage technology within a very short time. It also speaks highly of ASRock for again leading the way in advancing storage, as they are the only to incorporate a new SSD innovation into their Extreme 6 motherboard; this of course being a PCIe Gen 3 x4 interface that could accommodate M.2 SSDs up to blazing 32GB/s speeds. Although it may be some time until we get such a small form factor SSD travelling at that speed, this does mean that the Extreme6 is the only motherboard in the world that can accommodate our Samsung XP941 as a boot drive today. In fact today, we are going to be testing not only that XP941, but also the Plextor M6e PCIe x2 SSD and the Samsung 840 Pro SATA 3 SSD.

In 1992, one of the world's greatest events in automotive history was achieved with the production of the world's fastest production road car, the McLaren F1. Such an achievement was described as the "finest driving machine" to "may possibly be the fastest production road car the world will ever see". And to this day -- almost two decades later -- the car is still praised and respected by car enthusiasts around the globe. Now, as an avid fan of the automotive industry, I am not about to describe to you the engineering spectacles behind McLaren Automotive's McLaren F1. However, I will tell you that the machine was built for the sole purpose of reaching ridiculous speeds on the road. How did they do this? Well, one way was to use extremely expensive materials like building the car with a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis -- the very first production car to have done this. Another way was to design a gearbox that could withstand the power and torque from the car's engine. Heck, the F1 could also have been described as to have been stripped completely bare from the usually ordinary "comforts" in most cars like ABS and traction control. Today, from SilverStone, we may just have such a device on our hands -- the Raven RVS02 2.5" HDD enclosure. To my knowledge, not many enclosures incorporate a carbon fiber-like design. And much like the McLaren F1, it seems the Raven RVS02 also has been stripped from the usual comforts, making it extremely simple. However, one large question still remains. Does the Raven RVS02 outperform other USB 3.0 enclosures in speed? Read on to find out!
