Imagine that you could simply plug a PCIe SSD into your PC and immediately realize performance of over 2GB/s data transfer speeds. For the average PC user that may not seem like much, but for the media professional, or even enthusiast, being able to manipulate and move large amounts of media in seconds can save both time and money, as well as providing some pretty decent bragging rights. Our last PCIe SSD review saw the KingSpec 1TB MultiCore PCIe SSD transfer 29 HD video files in 36 seconds which is just over a second per. Today, we’re bringing you an exclusive look at the Mushkin Scorpion Deluxe ‘LSI SandForce Driven’ PCIe SSD and not only are we going to stand it beside the KingSpec for comparison, but also, we’ve thrown in our all time favorite OCZ Revo 3×2 PCIe SSD just for kicks. Hows this picture of all three PCIe SSDs running simultaneously look? Here’s a bit of confirmation from the OS itself…

While HDDs are great for storing personal documents and offer us high capacity at a decent price, they do have their cons. When constantly on the run, consumers want fast and reliable external storage in a very portable form factor. Portable external HDDs are usually able to meet those needs, but not always. HDDs have two issues when used as portable media; one, they are slow compared to SSDs and two, they are not nearly as resistant to physical abuse as solid state storage option. For the most part, USB 3.0 thumb drives usually are able to deliver us decent speeds and portability, but unless you are going to pay an arm and a leg, you aren’t going to get HDD like capacity. This is where Patriot steps in, with their Supersonic Phoenix USB 3.0 mobile flash drive.

When it comes to portable hard drives there are two things you always want. You want the drive to be small enough it is easy to carry around with you and you want the transfer feed to be fast. Today we are taking a look at a portable hard drive that not only is thin and easy to carry with you and is super fast it also looks awesome. I am talking about ADATA’s DashDrive Elite HE720. The HE720 is the world’s first 8.9mm ultra-thin external hard drive. It features USB 3.0 connectivity for super fast transfer speeds and has a stainless steel casing with 9H scratch resistance. Read on as we check this drive out.

Our SSD close up today is going to examine the different SSD types and form factors common to the consumer. This is the third paper in a series of recent articles that explained the benefits and components of a solid state drive and will go so far as to make up our SSD Beginners Guide. Each article is designed to be easily understood and will enable the reader to become proficient in every aspect of the SSD as it relates to their specific computing needs.

With the gaining popularity of SSDs, it was only a matter of time until we started seeing large capacity external SSDs hit the street and the time has come. Whereas less than seven days ago we had never had an external SSD of 512GB capacity, today I have three 512GB and a 1TB external SSDs sitting in front of me as I type. As an added benefit, we can state right off that these external SSDs are probably the most powerful manufactured to date and surprisingly, all can be thrown in your pocket. Today we are going to rip apart and test the new Monster Digital OverDrive 3.0 External SSD seen here. Monster has just releasedhttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=tecx-20&l=ur2&o=1 this SSD in several capacities, ranging from 128GB all the way to 1TB. Regardless of capacity, the form factor is the same and this SSD is smaller and thinner than just about any cell phone at 60mm x 126mm x 8mm.

Last year we took a look at a very sexy external hard drive from ADATA. The DashDrive Elite HE720 was a great external hard drive, but it was limited by the mechanical hard drive that was inside of it. Well ADATA is back with the DashDrive Elite SE720, which looks almost identical to the HE720, but what’s under the hood is completely different. This time with the SE720 ADATA has packed it with a 128 GB solid state drive. That means you will not be limited by the hard drive that is inside and this will be one of the fastest external drives we have ever tested! How fast? Read on to find out!
