External hard drives have grown in popularity considerably in recent years. Most of us have experienced at least one dreaded hard drive failure and so we’ve learnt the importance of backing up files. The Synology DS209 is an impressive device. Right from the get-go it has a very simple and sleek appearance with the white chassis accented by the black control panel. The Synology DS209 is no doubt fast, faster than any other 2 drive NAS that I've ever worked with.
Let's face it: DVD is on the way out as a data storage medium. Don't believe me? Do you remember when writable CDs were all the rage? I do, and I have a receipt for the $1000 2x drive to prove it. After reviewed on Synology DS109j 1-bay NAS system, today we have just received another new product from Synology which is a 4-bay NAS system; DS409slim. Synology DS409slim is not really same with its sister; DS409 as DS409slim supports four 2.5" SATA HDD while DS409 supports four 3.5" SATA HDD. Besides the size reduction, DS409slim consumes lesser power and also come with cheaper price.

Just to make things a little more interesting there is even a model which features a customised version of the old JMicron 602 controller.
Though the flash drive doesn’t have the classic OCZ cheesegrater heatspreaders, it is completely clad in what looks to me to be lightly-powdercoated aluminum. Which makes it one of the toughest, if simple, flash drives I’ve ever used. The charcoal body has its decorations but nothing that stand out over the blazing orange activity light.
