Mobile storage of music, videos, pictures, files, and pretty much anything else you can think of is rapidly becoming more and more popular. Even the recent release of Windows 7 has seen unheard of amounts of people wanting to install the operating system using external storage devices such as flash drives rather than a DVD. Many workstations in offices don't include any sort of optical or other removable media devices other than USB drives. Seagate has always been a name well associated with storage and their most recent external hard drive series is another push forward helping people with all kinds of storage needs. Benchmark Reviews is taking a look at the Seagate FreeAgent Go 640 GB USB 2.0 External Drive, which is loaded with features, and even software, to make your life easier.

When we reviewed the original Thermaltake BlacX back in April 2008, we commended Thermaltake for marketing such an innovative and convenient product, but we complained about its lack of essential features such as eSATA. The idea of allowing users to quickly swap internal hard drives on an external interface on-the-fly is undoubtedly excellent, but execution could definitely use some improvement.

As the demand for playback of HD content on PC's rise so does the need for a good Blu-Ray player to read and play that content. For those who want the ability to playback Blu-Ray content on their computers, media center PC's, and HTPC's but who don't necessarily want to buy a Blu-Ray writer or swallow the cost of a writer a Blu-Ray reader is an ideal choice. Today we take a look at the iHES208 Blu-Ray drive from Lite-On one of the best names in the industry to see what this drive has to offer.

Solid State Drives are accepted as being the future in PC storage, for too long we’ve had to put up with slow hard drives, but now we can use fast flash memory based SSDs. We have been sent the Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD to review, and will be putting it through its paces in today’s review.

The Patriot LX Class 10 SDHC memory card offers guaranteed sequential write speeds of 10MB/s. If you bought an SDHC card in the last year, it probably was a Class 6. The increase of 4 MB/s means you'll be able to clear your camera's or camcorder's buffer faster and get right back to shooting.

The product I’ve got today is called the i-Tech SIMDrive and it looks like a small USB flash but it has a slot on it for your sim card to be inserted into. On the drive itself is software to allows you to access, edit, backup and even export your contacts from the sim card. You do all this from your computer so it makes the whole process much easier. It’s inexpensive, and in my opinion well worth it to be able to easily access and backup your contacts.

When the Seagate Barracuda XT was revealed as the World's first-ever third generation SATA 6GBps hard drive, expectations for performance were raised to match the new bandwidth limit. While this drive offered tremendous storage capacity paired to good performance, the transfer speeds were nowhere near the second generation SATA 3GBps limit. This is where Benchmark Reviews turns to our vast collection of Solid State Drive storage products, some of which eclipse the SATA-II range. However, our history of SSD performance tests on the Intel ICH10 Southbridge would prove to be very different than our results on the new Marvell 88SE9123 or 88SE9128 SATA-III chips. In this article, Benchmark Reviews compares Marvell SATA 6G SSD performance against tests on the Intel ICH10 chipset.

I know the SSD is faster than the HDD, but what I didn’t really know was how it affected the system performance overall, so being a reviewer I ran tests, lots of tests, to find the answer. I ran storage specific tests, I ran overall system tests and separate tests as well and I found the obvious that the SSD is faster. I also found the not so obvious as well that at the system level the performance seemed lower with the SSD installed. So continue on to see the results of the testing and you can make your own conclusions.

This year, give your loved one a little space. Storage space, that is. Christmas is just around the corner, and there’s no better gift for that nerd in your family than external storage for all those downloaded episodes of Heroes that are cluttering up precious hard drive space. Verbatim has once again outdone themselves on space and simple coolness with the InSight Portable Hard Drive. This sleek piece of blackness comes in sizes of 350GB as well as 500GB and features Always On display technology. I’ll get into that in a few minutes, but right now let’s get a better look at the HDD itself and what it brings to the storage table.

Vi-On from Thermaltake is a hard disk drive enclosure with a suspension mechanism for the hard drive, a sheet of rubber foam to reduce the noise produced by the drive and a temperature-controlled fan. It is available in two versions, with eSATA port and without this port, and two choices of color, black or white. Let's take a look on the black eSATA model.
