SSDs such as the Transcend SSD320 make the migration from mechanicals disks a very easy experience. At 256GB, the Transcend SSD320 offers up a good amount of space for your OS, programs and quite a bit of data. The SSD320 is also built with reliability and performance in mind, using a proven combination of a Sandforce SF-2281 controller along with 25nm MLC NAND and SATA III interface.
Today Chris follows up the Transcend SSD720 review with the mainstream model, the SSD320. The SSD320 pairs asynchronous flash with the same SandForce controller found in the flagship 720 model. This combination reduces the total cost, but does it also significantly reduce performance?

If you are in the market for a new Solid State drive there is certainly no shortage of options available. Today we are looking at the new Transcend SSD720 128GB drive which features the class leading Sandforce 2281 controller.
Transcend's decision to disable RAISE on the SSD720 was a good one in our opinion. The minute chance that a single chip will malfunction does not outweigh the advantage of having the extra 8 GB available. We assume of course that you frequently make back-ups of your data. The choice of Sandisk memory chips seems to have little impact on the performance. In some benchmarks the SSD720 performs very well, such as in PCMark Vantage, while in others a bit below average. Performance-wise this is a bit of a dime-a-dozen SandForce SSD. The price is a little on the high side, as most SandForce-based SSDs are more affordable. Especially since Transcend has made the 8 GB available, the price per gigabyte should be lower instead of higher than average. It makes the Transcend SSD720 128GB a good SSD, but one for which there are more affordable alternatives

The Transcend Wi-Fi SD Card has some very interesting features. It can run in peer-to-peer mode, where it serves as access point. It's then possible to connect with your smartphone via the app, or with a laptop via the browser and a web interface. The camera can also connect to a personal personal hotspot, if your smartphone has that feature, in order to share photos via mobile internet. You can also connect to a wireless router.
