On the test bench today is a speedy little black box called the OCZ Vertex 3. If you haven't spoiled your computer yet with a Solid State Drive (SSD) yet, now's the time! The Vertex 3 is a great little 240GB SSD and just the right capacity to install Windows 7 along with a bunch of programs onto, without worrying for drive space. Since this SSD is rated for 6Gb/s SATA III, you'll find it quicker than first generation SATA II drives and light years faster than a standard mechanical hard drive.

I wish there was just ONE little black box that would allow an IT Admin to connect any kind of hard drive to it, so there's no need to crack open a computer system, mess with BIOS settings or waste time trying to move GBs over slow USB 2.0... Meet the focus of this review, IcyDock's MB981U3N-1SA USB 3.0 2.5/3.5" SATA & IDE hard drive adaptor. IT Admin's are going to like this....

Over the past year we at TestFreaks have reviewed numerous NAS units. During this time Synology has provided us with several different models ranging from those aimed at the home user to others targeting large-scale business. Today we will be looking at one of their newer units the Synology DiskStation DS213. This unit’s target group is workgroups and office environments with its encryption feature being a key selling point. However it does include numerous other features that cater to home and business users as well.

Today I am taking a look at the new Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 64GB USB thumb drive. As its name implies this is a USB 3.0 drive and according to the specifications supports transfer rates of up to 150MB/s Read and 70MB/s Write. I will test the reality of that a little later in this review. You may be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Over the years, Kingston have been one of the leading manufacturers of solid state drives and their selection of drives range from entry level consumer options right up to their top end HyperX editions. Whilst it’s great having a top end drive, most day to day users either don’t have the needs to push a HyperX drive to the limit or don’t have the money for the top end options. This is where the V series of drives come in, offering solid state benefits without the same high price tags. Though this is not to say though that they are couch potatoes and are not worth buying. For many first time users, these drives are a great first step into the world of solid state storage.

Western Digital or just WD is a well known hard drive manufacturer, and they really had
a break trough with their Raptor drives some years back.
The product we are looking at here, is their WD Black WD4001FAEX with a 4TB capacity.
But what about the performance?

Around a month ago i was asked to attend a technology related seminar for which i had to prepare and bring enough material to fill a large part of the 6 hours total it was ment to last (i say ment because i ended up leaving a lot sooner). The result was me filling a total of 52GB worth of data from charts, benchmarks, product pictures and Full HD clips on my favorite Kingston HyperX 128GB USB Flash Drive. Now the interesting part was that i wasn't really the only person in charge of bringing material for the seminar and so in the end there were five of us each carrying a USB flash drive with enough data to fill not 6 but 30 hours. Because of that in the end we all started talking about flash drives, how their prices have reached an all-time low and which are the best ones in the market currently not only in terms of performance but also in appearance and build quality. Naturally the award winning HyperX and PREDATOR flash drives by Kingston where at the center of our discussion but it seems that Kingston is on a roll since the very next day we received their latest DataTraveler Ultimate G3 64GB USB 3.0 Flash drive.

There are two drawbacks to living life in the fast lane and those are the cost of Solid State Storage and its limited capacity. Both of those drawbacks are starting to disappear rapidly as technology marches forward but, none the less they are still the primary concerns to enthusiasts at present. Today we are going to bench a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD and see what kind of performance this large capacity drive has to offer; RWL style..
